BrotherCraig Posted November 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2022 Hello all. I have researched a lot about getting to St John from Red Hooks. Everything looks good there. Question is this - We have 6 people in our party. Three adults and three kids (11, 8, and 2.5). Do you think St John and Trunk Bay is doable with kids with the time allowed? We arrive at port at 7 AM and the ship departs at 4 PM. Should we look at renting a private charter boat? Take the ferry from Red Hooks as planned? Or should we stay on St Thomas and go someplace there instead. We are not into crowds and we like going off the beaten path. We never take cruise ship excursions but would if it makes more sense. Thank you.
Ms411 Posted November 29, 2022 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2022 Sorry, but Trunk Bay is not off the beaten path. It is the most well worn path on St John, unfortunately. If you're early risers and get off the ship early, Trunk Bay won't be as crowded. If you get off the ship at 9 or so, Trunk will probably be getting crowded by the time you get there. Not only will there be cruise passengers, but many people in airbnbs on St Thomas will be headed there as well. The ship excursion may make you feel rushed, so depends on how much time you actually spend on St John versus getting there and back need to be considered. The best way to get off the beaten path is to take a private excursion that takes you where taxis can't.
Ms411 Posted November 29, 2022 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2022 Or rent a vehicle and explore St Thomas at your leisure.
