messymarie Posted March 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Anyone that went on that cruise I would like a review of it. How the sea and weather was? What to do aboard ship.
jslpotz Posted March 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2006 I returned last night from this cruise....waters were rough and it was cloudy/raining and./or cold most of the time. the staff was wonderful, food good (and tons of it!)...plenty of activities if in fact you like bingo, and assorted other games. I do not. I was looking forward to the 10 sea days to relax in the sun, which turned out to be almost non-existent. I did not need 4 bathing suits and lots of sunscreen!! there were the usual pool side games, casino, library, lots of pleasant lounges...some sea days were marked by lavishly decorated "themes" in the dining rooms,...but it was odd the food didn;t match the themes....ie mardi gras, Asian etc. the few shows we attended were good...the highlight (to me) was the show put on by the Indonesian staff. There is a fabulous string quartet from Romania on board and it was a sheer delight to listen/watch them. Staff very young and energetic...ours was the cruise which was cut short by a day due to the accident the previous week....HAL cut out the visit to Kauai, and reimbursed us for the lost cruise day, meals and hotel for the extra day we spent in San Diego. I would have preferred a visit to Kauai and one less sea day, but that wasn't to be this was our 7th cruise (2nd with HAL)....I wasn't disappointed in the cruise, just the weather, over which there clearly is no control! very odd to realize our weather today in mid-Michigan is the same as it was in Hawaii....60 and raining! we were 3 couples 65-72 in age, and had a delightful time in spite of the nasty weather. hope this helps... FlorenceItaly Posted March 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2006 Not what I wanted to hear, lol. I am booked on the 30 day Hawaii/South Pacific next year, leaving Jan 22, 2007. I will just have to hope for the best :). Maroe

I will just have to hope for the best :). Well, Marie ... if it makes you feel any better, we had lovely weather on our 30-day cruise this year. Sure, it was a bit chilly the first few days out of San Diego, and then crappy the last few coming back ... but other than that, there were plenty of sun worshippers out on the pool decks. Don't forget, you're going beyond Hawaii ... crossing the equator ... it gets downright warm in those parts of the world. You should be fine. Blue skies ... --rita

I will just have to hope for the best :). Maroe Honestly, I think it is often just the luck of the draw. We went in November and had a few days of rough seas, but mostly good weather. The cruise before us had terrible weather and large waves. In December we had wonderful weather. It was like floating on a lake. The crew said they had never seen such smooth seas to Hawaii. The ocean and weather do what they want, when they want. Don't fret. Just go and have the time of your lives!!!! They can't all be bad weather days. :D Jill
