DorothyB Posted January 8, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2023 We are doing an NCL cruise in early April. We are interested in doing a whale watching excursion which is NOT an NCL excursion. Ports of call are Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatalan and Ensenada. Any recommendations?? Thanks!!
CruiserBruce Posted January 8, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2023 The number of whales present will fall off rapidly after April 1. I wouldn't book a whale watch trip after then solely for whales. You could easily be disappointed. It is commonly discussed here that the best place for whale watching in the Mexican Rivera is Cabo, so if are going to try, that would be the place. SDPadreFan Posted January 9, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2023 Like Bruce said and I can completely agree. I wouldn't book a whale watch tour in April. Jan/Feb is really the best.
MSN-Travelers Posted January 10, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2023 "Whale watching season" typically runs from December 15th through March 15th. The exact dates of whale watching season are set by the SEMARNAT (the Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources for Mexico). The Mexican government determines when excursion operators can book tours. Although Vallarta's season started a week early this year, I wouldn't count on booking an excursion in late March/early April. Enjoy! . . . DorothyB Posted January 10, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Thanks!! I did find a company in Cabo recommended in another thread. Personally, I think I would enjoy the excursion in a "nicer than zodiac" boat even if we don't see whales.
