Rare KKB Posted February 1, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2023 I got an email several weeks ago to upgrade my deluxe balcony...to premium, Aurea or a closed window suite. (naw, thx anyway). Today I got another one. The min prices are HIGHER than the 1st email! Uh, usually prices go DOWN if you aren't selling those cabins as the sailing gets closer... And if they weren't selling you wouldn't need to send me another email... Kinda made me giggle!
Rare styles27 Posted February 1, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2023 MSC and other cruise lines don’t handle the upgrade bidding program. They contract that out. Ships are sailing pretty full if not full which explains the higher pricing.
Rare KKB Posted February 1, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted February 1, 2023 I realize it is handled by a 3rd party. Prices are about as low as when I booked in Oct. I have seen min prices DROP with a 2nd email but never rise!

Kind of a "you better bid now" or the price might go up thing!

We bid on Haven for our Dec. cruise & we got an email saying X number of people are bidding... We knew at that point we were OUT.

When they tell you the numbers of people bidding, its now ebay style except you only know if your winning or losing. This is because so many people may have bid max. I went thru it on an NCL cruise this past October and it was crazy. Had bid over $7500 a person (yes $7500 and it was a 21 night sailing))for Haven on several categories and was out bid. Did win a Haven in one category
Rare TampaGambler Posted February 3, 2023 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2023 Can someone paste the upgrade website? We sail in a month and we still haven't received any upgrade email...

That is the room I would like to bid on, we are currently in the YC. Thanks..

You would be correct then unless they are not allowing casino upgrades anymore. You must have booked that some time ago as the 30% casino discount for YC has gone away. Too bad. Perhaps they are waiting to see if the royal suite in YC gets filled. That is the room I would like to bid on, we are currently in the YC. Thanks.. Just booked for March 16 MSC Meraviglia out of Port Canaveral. 2 YC rooms left - the Royal and a Duplex on floor 12 - wonder if it's the same cruise? Booked the Duplex. Usually book a YC Penthouse so we are excited about the 2 bathrooms, hot tub on the balcony, and separate area for the 13yo kiddo. TA thinks it's because our "leg" of the cruise is the first part of a longer 10 night cruise and the Royal Suite prices are high for MSC. Our TA priced the remaining Royal for ~2K more than the Duplex, which we both agreed was silly for a 3 nighter. Honestly, for the price we got (awesome TA + Sapphire perks), the slight inconvenience of not being on floor 15/16/17 is not inconvenient at all. After booking, immediately got a "bid to upgrade" email. The minimum upgrade priced for the 1st 2 persons only was within 200$ of the outright price of the Royal. One less bathroom and >2K more for being on floor 15? Not a chance. Warmest, Amy

We booked through a third party called ur comped, but received the upgrade bid emails last time we cruised with MSC, in 2020. Currently, only the Royal suite is available for an upgrade and when I inquired about just buying it, they wanted 8k more, and I passed. Figured I could probably bid and get it cheaper. They fully comped our YC suite for the first two, only charging for our child.
