Radbooks Posted April 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Hello! I know that we can't bring my mom's electric heating pad, however there are a variety of battery and USB type pads on Amazon. Are those allowed on board? Anyone have any luck bringing one aboard? Thanks!
Rare 1025cruise Posted April 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Nope, any powered heating pads aren't allowed.
FOPMan Posted April 22, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Those are still very much electric. The ship’s concern is fire. Heaters, by definition, are intended to generate heat, which has the potential to cause a fire. Tbe other related risk is an electrical short, which can also result in a fire. The ship’s electrican can provide guidance on what is acceptable.
Rare Mary229 Posted April 22, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2023 How about the chemical pads. There are a variety of types.
julia Posted April 22, 2023 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Also, you might consider a good old fashioned hot water bottle... still does the trick!
Florida_gal_50 Posted April 22, 2023 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) I've purchased a USB powered heating pad based on an earlier thread on here. The person said they had no problem. It remains to be seen. Different ships seem to have their own rules. I personally find hot water bottles useless. I would be interested to hear if those using the USB heating pad had problems bringing them on board. I have always had a problem with poor circulation in my feet but as I have gotten older it causes pain in my legs if I cannot warm my feet up. I suffered a lot last July going to Norway and a bit concerned about doing September Alaska. I totally agree Hot Water Bottles are totally useless. Rare Crew News Posted April 22, 2023 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2023 I have been bringing USB hand warmers to Alaska for years without an issue. They include a flashlight and double as chargers.

At home I do acupuncture for my knees and heat up magic bags in the microwave at home. I use something called a Thermotex at home plus tens machines. Also use a magic bag on my hip at home. I find the exercise bike helps my knees somewhat on a cruise but walking a ton is a killer even though I routinely do 10 to 15 thousand steps a day but that's in short spurts during the day. I don't know what I'd do if I did something like a 2 month cruise. I do bring my tens machines but they are limited help. Getting old sucks.
