Tourer1 Posted April 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Just back from Onward had a fabulous cruise, France intensive. she looked great, staff very attentive enjoyed most of the shows. We had a 30$ gratuity added to our bill, for chefs table. was not mentioned at time of booking. would this be normal now another couple at the dinner were not charged? Any thoughts , is this now the norm.

Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted April 22, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Wasn't there some post about getting a $0 bill in the specialties with a line for tips? [Or was that a different cruise line – I'm sorry, I'm on a trip at the moment and everything is getting hazy. What day is today???] Is it possible you were in a wine-fog and added this? ECCruise Posted April 22, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2023 If they are using the tablets on Onward for your bill, there is a screen for the tips before you sign. It is easy to miss and I almost pushed the wrong button when I wanted to add a custom tip.
Dr H Posted April 23, 2023 #5 Share Posted April 23, 2023 I frequently will order a drink that is not part of the included list, and there is always a line for tip on the bill. I don't tip, my wife does. My gratuities are included in the price of my cruise ticket. The Chef's Table is a pretty hefty tab in and of itself. I have never been hit for a tip. Speak to the Maitre'D, something is wrong here. Other than that, how was the cruise? I tried to convince my kids to book it just to get away from life. They didn't. Neither did life.
loafin Posted April 23, 2023 #6 Share Posted April 23, 2023 We were on Onward April 4 for the Spain Intensive. We ate at both the French and Italian Chef’s Table. A $25 tip was charged for each. Both meals were fantastic!

Yes, I remember you. We dined in Prime C and Aqualina on that cruise and were never charged any gratuities. Nor were we charged gratuities on our most recent Azamara cruise (last fall in the Adriatic) on several visits to the various specialties and Chef's Tables. [Suite guests don't pay for the speciality restaurants, but we did pay for the Chef's Tables.]
laurieb Posted April 24, 2023 #12 Share Posted April 24, 2023 We did, unfortunately have this happen to us last summer. The maitre de will have it removed if you request it. They weren’t using the tablets yet then.
