Rare iamaqt2 Posted April 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Hi all Does anyone know if the Cape Fox Lodge funicular/tram is currently operating? I saw an article from November that they had redone the tracks and were getting a new car delivered, but haven't been able to find any additional info. Thanks!! wolfie11 Posted April 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Personally, I would be surprised. You could call them and ask.

Rare iamaqt2 Posted April 22, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted April 22, 2023 For anyone else who may be wondering, a phone call confirmed the tram is not running. They are currently working on it and hope to have it up sometime this summer. No ETA.
Northern Aurora Posted April 22, 2023 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2023 Thank for posting. I wonder if that tram will ever be operational again. We were in Ketchikan twice in late September 2021 when limited cruises were allowed under the Alaska Touirism Recovery Act, and it was not running then. We were in Ketchikan twice in 2022 and again it was not operating. That year I asked two different locals about the situation and received two different answers.

It will be up and running as they've invested a lot of money to get it operational again. They redid the tracks and purchased a new car from Italy. This article from November explains it. Was just hoping it would be done next month for my May cruise. My bum knee doesn't allow for Married Man's Trail. https://www.krbd.org/2022/11/18/new-cape-fox-tram-is-on-the-way-to-ketchikan/
Northern Aurora Posted April 23, 2023 #7 Share Posted April 23, 2023 Thanks for providing the link to the article you initially referenced. One of the answers I received in 2022 made me wonder if the owners were willing to make the investment. 54 minutes ago, iamaqt2 said: It will be up and running as they've invested a lot of money to get it operational again. I was hoping this time it would be.

wolfie11 Posted June 27 #10 Share Posted June 27 When I drove by last week it was boarded up with a For Sale sign.
lnhoney Posted June 27 #11 Share Posted June 27 The Old tram was boarded up? Or the actual lodge?
nordicacres Posted June 27 #12 Share Posted June 27 We walked by a funicular in Ketchikan today that was gated/closed. I’m assuming it is that of which you speak.
lnhoney Posted June 27 #13 Share Posted June 27 I believe you are correct. They were getting a new car for it last year but something must have delayed that. Can always take the stairs up, not sure how the knees will like it. 😁
