1sttimerrt Posted May 2, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2023 We are planning a cruise with PG in March of 2024. We were thinking about staying for a few days pre cruise on Moorea. Any feedback on whether it might be better to stay at the Hilton or the Sofitel on Moorea?

I've stayed at both. Hilton The good: Good sunset views Good snorkeling Inexpensive place to eat across the street for breakfast and lunch Superior pool area IMO The not so good: Grounds are much small compared to the Sofitel Garden rooms are very close to each other Can be barking dogs on the east side close to the garden rooms Sofitel The Good: Nice sunrise views View of Tahiti Good snorkeling Next to the longest public beach on the island Expansive grounds compared to the Hilton The not so good: Not close to any other eatery If your staying in an OWB it comes down to do you want sunrise views or sunset views. All the better restaurants will come and pick you up for dinner. Edited May 2, 2023 by Tahitianbigkahuna

Also, would you mind sharing a few of the restaurants you would recommend that will pick us up from the Hilton for dinner? Thank you!!

mermaid 285 Posted May 2, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 2, 2023 Having stayed at the Sofitel twice and having visited the Hilton for a meal (and a look around), we would choose the Sofitel any day - the standards seem very similar between both hotels, but we love the location of the Sofitel, as the views are totally amazing. We were underwhelmed by the Hilton - in terms of views and size of beach. I know it's very popular among Americans though as many use their points to stay. It's true to say that the Sofitel is further away from other hotels and restaurants, but as we usually hire a car in Moorea that's not an issue for us. Also the Sofitel is closer to the ferry. back to the islands Posted May 3, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2023 We stayed at the Hilton and I loved it! We also went to the Sofitel for an excursion. It was beautiful, but my choice would be the Hilton in an overwater bungalow, but I don't think you can go wrong either way. The snorkeling was great around the overwater bungalows. Lots of pretty coral in pink, purple, blue, white and gold.
