carpeperdiem Posted June 30, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2023 Questions re: Mega Rockstar -- Our upcoming voyage will be our first time as Mega and we are thrilled! I understand drinks up-to $25 are included, and two wine bottles per day, up-to $90 each are included. I believe the process is they comp these from your folio prior to debarkation. Hopefully. But... 1. How does Test Kitchen drink or wine pairing ($40) get handled for MRS? In the past as RS, it was charged to our Bar Tab. But Red Glove support said Test Kitchen pairings are not included? 🤔 Since it is 6 drinks served in a restaurant, can we request each of the drinks in the pairing to be charged individually? And perhaps they can serve full-size versions of each drink and bill individually? Did you get Test Kitchen drink pairings comped when you sailed MRS? 2. VAT -- If in port, drinks are taxed (VAT). If VAT forces the drink over $25 (including VAT) or bottle over $90 (including VAT), how does that work for Mega bar tab? Red Glove support was not able to answer this, other than "Yes, you're correct, we do charge VAT (Value-Added Tax) for Drinks along with services performed while docked in port." -- so what does that mean? How does the math work on the $85 bottle of wine -- does VAT kick it above $90 and the entire bottle is then no longer comped? Or a $23 shot, etc... ? 3. Bridge Tour / Behind the Scenes -- is this comped for MRS? Is this at the discretion of the RSA? The email communication from Red Glove is moderately vague. Are they trying to tell me to shut up, and just let your RSA do their thing? Thanks in advance for any MRS guidance or tips.
Janthere Posted June 30, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2023 I can confirm that #3 the bridge tour was no charge for us in a MRS suite a couple months ago. We just asked our roadie for a tour and got one. We did however ask to book the Behind the Scenes on our most recent cruise 2 weeks ago and even as MRS we were charged for it - they were sure to let us know that it would be charged and not comped. Even still it was well worth it. Sorry I can't answer #1 or #2.
Rare cantgetin Posted June 30, 2023 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2023 I can't answer most of your questions. You CAN order full size cocktails in Test Kitchen and have what you order applied to your bar tab, so likely would be the same--applying to Mega benefits. Another hint--if you are into some of the very costly liquors that go for $40 per shot, the bar in the casino, and ONLY that bar serves 1/2 pours. This takes them down to $20 and puts them on the Mega benefits.

Thank you! I wonder if Pink Agave will do 1/2 pours with the mezcals? (On Scarlet last month, they offered us a "split" pour -- we paid for one full mezcal shot and our waiter served it in two shot glasses (1/2 shot per person). This allowed us to do a flight of 3 mezcals (shared between 2 people) and it was a LOT of fun (and we learned a lot about mezcal in the process). 29 minutes ago, cantgetin said: You CAN order full size cocktails in Test Kitchen I will ask if we can order the full sizes of the cocktails in the pairing. Thanks for the suggestion.
Fogcityca13 Posted July 1, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2023 The cocktail and nonalcoholic cocktail pairing at Test kitchen was waved when we sailed as MRS. It never hit our folio. I would ask your agent if they will change you for the pairing. If they are going to charge you, just order the individual wine or cocktail that pairs with the plate. The cocktail pairing are a full sized cocktails, I’m glad we shared the nonalcoholic. No preloading of your polio. The daily bar tab works just like a drink package on other lines. If you order something over $25, the server will confirm that a charge will hit your folio. Your agent will be able to help manage your charges. We kept getting a charge for espresso in the restaurants, we told the server not to worry about it and messaged our agent to remove the charge. We didn’t run into a VAT charge, but we may have been well under the $25 limit while in port. We had a scheduling problem and missed the bridge tour. There is not a change for those since they are invites.

The only place I'm aware of serving half pours is the casino bar....not saying that it can't happen elsewhere. Any place can split a drink between 2 people, but they need the computer "button" to bill it as a half pour.. If it matters to you, ask before you order.
RBCal Posted July 5, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 5, 2023 I'm jealous since I'm just a regular rockstar. You will have to drink a lot to get your money's worth but the space and deck will be worth it.

We used the level upgrade bids and was accepted MRS this time. Bid a little over the minimum for MRS... and it was a surprise to us as well. But I did consider our expected spend on Bar Tab and other MRS benefits and factored that into my justification for the bid. If the bid didn't clear, we would have been fine with any RS suite. Or Sea Terrace and save the $. The math worked out this time. It doesn't always.
RBCal Posted July 5, 2023 #9 Share Posted July 5, 2023 What was the minimum? When I look at my cruise I think it is outrageous.
Fogcityca13 Posted July 5, 2023 #10 Share Posted July 5, 2023 My personal opinion is MRS makes sense if you are traveling with a group and want to host get togethers. That way you’re making use of the mini bar and your rockstar agent. MRS agents can bring you food, so if you’re having fun at pool and what some pizzas, your agent can handle that. I thought it was a decent value under $1,500 a night, but those prices are long gone.
