soprano Posted July 3, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2023 Several people in my party use cell phone wallets, where their ID and credit cards are stored in the phone's case. Does putting the phone next to the cruise card deactivate the card? Thanks in advance!
Mr. Green Posted July 3, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2023 I don't believe it will since it uses an RFID chip in the card and not a magnetic strip.
smokeybandit Posted July 3, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2023 No. Maybe 15 years ago but not now
Rare ReneeFLL Posted July 3, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2023 I have a thing that sticks to my phone that holds some tip money and my sea pass in. Never been a problem. 2

I believe only certain ships use RFID cards, not all of them.

On ships which still use magnetic stripe cards (Allure, Freedom class and older), there's a very slight chance of that happening.
Rare island lady Posted July 3, 2023 #9 Share Posted July 3, 2023 Happened to me on Jewel a few months ago. I usually keep cell phone in separate pocket, forgot and stuck it in the same pocket as my key card. Oopss...a trip down to GS desk. 🥺
HicksRA Posted July 3, 2023 #10 Share Posted July 3, 2023 I have a leather phone case with a credit card slot where I have carried my seapass card many times and never had a problem.

sdrocks Posted July 3, 2023 #12 Share Posted July 3, 2023 I don't remember which ship and when it was but I found if I carried my Kindle with my room key on top that the card was deactivated. It took me a couple times of getting new cards before I figured out not to do it that way anymore. I was holding the key that way until I could get off to wherever I was going, which was usually the gym with my Kindle.
CruisinCadie Posted July 4, 2023 #13 Share Posted July 4, 2023 Just off the Brilliance. I kept my cell phone and sea pass card in my over-the-shoulder bag the entire trip and never had a problem. It was a barcode reader card, not the strip.

steveru621 Posted July 5, 2023 #15 Share Posted July 5, 2023 There may be a problem, only on ships that have old-style magstripes. Not because of the phone, but a magnet in the case.
