Jthans24 Posted July 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2023 We are considering our first Royal Cruises and are looking at doing a four-day followed by a seven-day on different ships in Galveston. We have cruised quite a bit on Celebrity and did our first back-to-back earlier this year, and we really liked how you were off the ship for about 15 minutes before getting back on. What is the process when you are switching ships? We are also considering just doing the seven-day and staying in Galveston at an Airbnb for a few days beforehand. Thank you, Josh
firefly333 Posted July 10, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2023 Switching ships would be like 2 separate cruises. It's not treated like a b2b since it's a different ship.

cruisegirl1 Posted July 10, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 10, 2023 Very different. Your side-by-side cruise will be to separate cruises, not connected in any way. You will need to pack up and leave the first ship just like all other passengers. You may need to arrange transportation to the new terminal and wait in line for check in and boarding jut like all other passengers. At times Royal will help you transport from one terminal to another. Not sure how that is handled in Galveston. M

So two different ships, not even on the same day? Didn't realize that - thanks We actually did that in Port Canaveral. Got off one ship, went to a hotel in Cocoa beach for one-night (Could not check in that early but the hotel let us use the pool and facilities) and then got on anther ship the next day. M That's what bella2 is doing. 1 night between wonder and utopia. I was thinking the OP didnt see the dates arent the same. There wouldnt be ships ships in the same terminal together the same day unless there is a emergency.
Jthans24 Posted July 10, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted July 10, 2023 Voyager of the Seas is Dec 27-31 and Harmony of the Seas is Dec 31-Jan 7. I figured we would be moving and starting over like a new guest, was hoping it would be different. Thanks everyone for their input.

No the new terminal is about 10 blocks away. They used to use terminal 2, which is now terminal 28. Terminal 1 which carnival uses is now terminal 25. Also no sidewalks along there between old and new. I guess voyager will be in thr old terminal. Pier 28 is Royal’s old terminal building. Actually doing B2B parking wouldn’t be a problem only those doing just the 4 day. Thank you, Josh Only one ship can dock at new terminal. I realize you probably want a holiday sailing but Harmony 4 day followed by 7 day at the beginning of November would be a true B2B and makes more sense logistically. I am not sure I would want the hassle of packing up and changing ships and terminals for those itineraries.
welshrich Posted July 10, 2023 #15 Share Posted July 10, 2023 We recently did a s2s out of Port Everglades, we let guest services know and on the last day we debarked, got our cases and cleared customs, then went to the suite checkin outside the terminal who had us and a few others on a list, they directed us to a bus who took us to the other terminal at the port, we then waited outside until check in opened and checked in as normal. hope this helps.

Done this at least 6 times out of Port Everglades Royal had us leave from one Pier come into another. Was doing it at least once a yr pre-CV. The one time we drove down they ran Buses and Shuttles to Parking Ramp, but most times Pier to Pier was walking distance of about 5-10 min walk Edited July 10, 2023 by ONECRUISER

First and foremost it is an event that is rarely likely to happen in Galveston.

Thinking back (well actually looking at spreadsheet) to Dec 28, 2014 and Jan 4, 2015 we did a side to side with no day in-between cruises in Port Canaveral. I recall we used off site parking for these cruises. We shuttled back to the parking lot after the first cruise (Stayed on till most had departed), exchanged some clothes out of the suitcase and then shuttled to the new terminal. Worked out fine. Had that recently on Mariner on Port Canaveral. Departed from T1 returned to T5 ( or was it 6?) We dropped our luggage at T1, drove to T5 to park and they shuttled us to T1. Upon return to Port Canaveral, we docked at T5 and our car was right there. We weren't sure what to do but a few days prior to the cruise we received clear instructions from RCCL regarding luggage drop, parking and shuttle. Was on B4B last Fall standing on my Balcony watching hundreds passengers dragging bags across 2 parking lots. We had late arrival one week where they made all new passengers wait outside the Fence on Sidewalk. Knock on wood, after getting to Port never had wait more then 30min to Board a Ship
RumAndCoconuts Posted July 20, 2023 #21 Share Posted July 20, 2023 We will be transferring ships in Southampton next spring. Coming of the Transatlantic on Anthem of the Seas and boarding P&O Britannia. Any insight on the logistics of this? Cruise a holic Posted July 21, 2023 #25 Share Posted July 21, 2023 We have done and enjoyed side by side's out of fort lauderdale. First leg was a celebrity one week Silhouette cruise, followed by a Royal Caribbean Harmony cruise. We loved it- the best of both worlds- have also enjoyed b/2/b's and those are great because you aren't packing when most people are- and getting on and off of the ship so easy.
