Rare Lionesss Posted August 28, 2023 Author #102 Share Posted August 28, 2023 (edited) Good morning. Slept restless. Of course excited to get the cruise going. But, a little night time attention getter got me up. The earthquake ( or after quake) woke me up and my mind has been racing since. Felt the rumble and my eyeglasses rattled on night stand. Guess there have been a few here in last 48 hours. Take care. Edited August 28, 2023 by Lionesss
depplep Posted August 28, 2023 #103 Share Posted August 28, 2023 Wow, you must be a force of nature. You go from tornados in the Midwest to earthquakes in the Northwest! Have a great cruise.
Rare Ferry_Watcher Posted August 28, 2023 #104 Share Posted August 28, 2023 Weather in Seattle today - Expect a high of 74 degrees, and the possibility of some rain later in the day.
Rare Lionesss Posted August 28, 2023 Author #105 Share Posted August 28, 2023 Ok. The very small earthquake is now documented on the earthquake site. Back home a mere 30 miles from our house near Lake Erie they also had one. So far I think and pray I am done with natures fury. I have personally experienced: Snow blizzard —- 3 feet of snow event Hurricane Charlie. The Friday 13th. Mini Tsunami/quake Labadee Tornado ohio Earthquake Ohio. Now Seattle Thats enough experience for one person. Better times ahead. Be safe.
Rare Lionesss Posted August 28, 2023 Author #106 Share Posted August 28, 2023 Getting ready for breakfast I thought I would try on the back up pair of shoes we bought at target here by Pikes Market. They only have self checkout. My pair comes to the cruise with an ink filled security tag. Nothing was on register screen to remove and I did not alarm leaving store. These shoes will be well traveled and I will return in Ohio. And yes I have the receipt. Be safe.

Ifn you can find a good strong magnet on the cruise or at the hotel you can take the security tag off.

Just like any other major city, be mindful of your surroundings. If you are going a few blocks for dinner, you should be fine. There will also be more activity downtown when the Mariners (Go M’s) and Seahawks are playing (soon), so the streets may have more people. Good to know--Mariner play 3PM the 17th when we will be there.

But first as I am looking out our hotel window and see the most stunning sunset I have seen in a long time. The beauty of nature. But it made me reflect upon our last 24+ hours in Seattle. I have observed that the residents of this community are so friendly and helpful. I know it is a touristy location but so many patient and kind people. The areas we visited were very clean. The artwork displayed shows individual talents. I witnessed a homeless person laying face down with a cigarette lighter clenched in his hand, as a walker by placed an unopened bottle of water for him. The police presence was very evident. They patrolled on foot, bikes as well as cars. We have used Ubers to go places and all have talked our ears off with helpful information. I did not get pushed or shoved or bumped out of the way by other tourists or locals. I guess the great patience rubs off on all. The only thing that was new was the excess fee for dining. 22% automatically added to your bill. 5% for tax. 17% for tip. Guess it has to be done for those who opt not to tip. And we heard from a number of visitors as well as locals pay close attention to the fees quoted by taxi drivers. Some over charge. Good night. Glad to hear the positives. 5% tax & 17% tip is less than I pay here. We have over 7% sales tax, plus a tax for our concert venue at restaurants & bars & we usually tip 20%!
