Britter16 Posted August 23, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2023 What is the difference between a regular balcony and a cove balcony?
Wishing on a star Posted August 23, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2023 The cove balconies are the ones you see, on the lower decks, where the balcony is enclosed by the exterior walls/framework of the ship. Because these are on lower decks, and are more enclosed to protect from the sea, they will have a reinforced regular door, not the sliding glass door. If a ship were to ever encounter some rough conditions, the staff will close a protective door OVER your balcony door, from the outside. That will totally block any exterior view. There are other ships out there that do have cove balconies. Look for the carnival ships or the Iona. There are videos out there, where you can get an idea just what the Princess Cove Balconies will be like. 1

They are also a Deluxe Balcony category on the new Sun Class and not a Regular Balcony. So, they will be a little larger and will also have a small sofa. rocklinmom Posted August 25, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2023 I looked at the cove balcony cabins on the new Sun and they are indeed low, even under the lifeboats. So you would definitely hear them on tender port days and when they do cruise safety drills.

It could be avoided somewhat if one came to learn which boats they typically deploy and avoid those cabins. Of course, they probably rotate which ones they use so luck of draw.

Somewhat, but probably not too much. Example, Emerald Princess has 11 lifeboats on the starboard side, but only three of them are set up for tendering. For the most part they only use the double deckers to tender. This is on a lifeboat from Celebrity Beyond. I would rather tender than use it as a lifeboat. OPPS!
