suncoastgirl Posted March 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2006 I need to know what brands of laundry detergent are available on board. I have forgotten since our last cruise. I am allergic to certain brands, especially Tide. Any insight anyone can give me is appreciated.
zydecocruiser Posted March 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2006 I would then bring my own. No promises, but this was what was on Valor about a year ago... Tide and Cheer were available. Your soap mileage may vary.
jenjens1023 Posted March 18, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2006 There's a new detergent from All called "Small and Mighty." It only takes one ounce per load. I thought I'd get an empty travel bottle, put some once markings on the side and take it with me. Or you could use a medicine cup (if you have kids you have a million of these)--they are one ounce. This should make laundry on vacation almost easy!! (I hate laundry. My mom loves it but obviously I didn't inherit that gene.)

Rare finoky Posted March 18, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 18, 2006 So that's what the laundry room looks like. In seven cruises myself or anyone else we have cruised with have ever stepped foot in that room. Nice pic Zyde. All your pics are excellent by the way. serene56 Posted March 18, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2006 no need to bring quarters from hom-- you can get quarters from the pursers desk or the casino with no problem.

That's true, but then you have to get them past those slot machines without them eating them out of your hand!
bills blasters Posted March 18, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2006 I just measure a load of laundry powder into a ziplock bag, and stuff them in the suit case. Plus, I put some dryer clothes in a bag also. If can save a lot of money if you plan on doing a lot of loads of laundry.
Naismith Posted March 18, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 18, 2006 When I travel, I carry the detergent tablets. They are compact and hard until dissolved--fit in a shoe--and much less chance of mess than either powder or liquid. I think mine are Purex, but other brands come in that form as well. jenjens1023 Posted March 18, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2006 My grocery store stopped carrying the tablets so I assumed they didn't exist anymore. I'll look for them. I loved them in the past.
woodz Posted March 19, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 19, 2006 Bath and Body works has a new product called "Peach nut Oil" liquip soap - 18 in 1 uses. Look on their web-site or in their stores and ask for it. It is a very mild soap/cleanser/shampoo/body soap/fine washable/laundry soap...... jshawnh Posted March 19, 2006 #12 Share Posted March 19, 2006 I just carry enough clothes, so I don't have to do laundry until I get home.

suncoastgirl Posted March 19, 2006 Author #15 Share Posted March 19, 2006 Thanks for all your insight. I hate to do laundry as my dh will attest. But, I like to be prepared just in case. You never know. Besides I am trying to lighten my load. Have over packed on my other 2 cruises. I think I will just bring my own detergent to be safe. Thanks again. karen116 Posted March 19, 2006 #16 Share Posted March 19, 2006 Honestly I will admit I am a laundry nut! I hate when it piles up and I'd rather do it than bring home tons of dirty laundry that I'll just have to spend days doing at home. I'm an early riser, so if I put a load in and then got to the breakfast buffet, by the time I'm done with breakfast it's time to put the laundry in the dryer! Still leaves me all day to have fun! hawaiideb Posted March 19, 2006 #17 Share Posted March 19, 2006 A thread was on a few months ago about laundry, and someone suggested Wal-Mart for tablets. I've looked in several stores since then, and can't seem to find any tablets. We used to buy them when DH was traveling (loved them BTW), but haven't seen them in a few years. Any suggestions where to get some? I normally use liquid, and don't want to take liquid on the cruise. We always have done a load or two of laundry on our cruises, just helps keep our suitcases light. Debbie

Besides I am trying to lighten my load. Have over packed on my other 2 cruises. I think I will just bring my own detergent to be safe. Thanks again. I got this tip from another CC poster: Put powdered laundry detergent in one of those tubes that the mini M&Ms are sold in, you can find them in the candy section at the grocery store checkouts. They hold just the right amount of detergent for one load of laundry. I mark the outside that it's laundry detergent in case they inspect my luggage at the airport. Don't want them thinking it's drugs. :p Ms B
mustwork2cruise Posted March 19, 2006 #19 Share Posted March 19, 2006 That is the one job that DH will gladly help me with! I will be bringing GAIN from home. He will actually do the laundry by himself while we are cruising! Stange -- I know. Just 25 more Sunday's for me to wait!
zydecocruiser Posted March 19, 2006 #20 Share Posted March 19, 2006 Ya'll need to cruise more - free wash and fold with platinum status but I don't know what detergent they use. Most of the tabs have been discontinued. These are still available: http://www.quixtar.com/products/product.aspx?pid=731&Ctg=944&ItemNo=100297
suncoastgirl Posted March 19, 2006 Author #21 Share Posted March 19, 2006 I'm working on it. When DH retires next year I wil be able to play catch up. Until 3 years ago always took "land" vacations. I loved them. But now cruising rates #1 and "land" #2.
