Rare pappy1022 Posted September 21, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2023 I will send a detailed review of my time on Splendor as soon as I get home next week from our British Isle cruise. Overall the trip has been very good. The captain just informed us of several people having respiratory illness on board. We all know what that is. 1

Same thing a few weeks ago on Splendor (Reykjavik to Copenhagen). Ratcheted up to no self-serving, library closed, etc. I'm afraid that after COVID practices have wound down, people have forgotten the routine of hand-washing and sanitizing to prevent these outbreaks. I hope for your cruise enjoyment that people pay attention to the announcements and the curtailments are limited.

Just back to the good old days of Norovirus. Just wash and sanitize your damn hands! (We've been on a number of cruises where Norovirus arose over the last couple of decades. Never caught it, but then we were using hand sanitizer and due caution long before the pandemic.) Edited September 21, 2023 by Portolan

With the whole crew wearing masks RSV, Flu, or Covid are the more likely suspects since they are transmitted in the air. 2
1sttimerrt Posted September 21, 2023 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2023 My husband and I contracted COVID from our trip on the Splendor that disembarked on 9/12. I am wondering If we got it from one of the guests that was coughing like crazy on an excursion bus we rode on 9/11.

1sttimerrt Posted September 21, 2023 #11 Share Posted September 21, 2023 Yes, I know. But I believe that COVID started to flare up near the end of the voyage. Another couple also reported positive tests a few days after disembarking.
hamasgirl Posted September 21, 2023 #12 Share Posted September 21, 2023 My husband and I left Splendor on 7/31 and we both tested positive for COVID the next day when we arrived home. In addition my husband experienced additional symptoms which surely indicated norovirus. On our cruise, the crew often wore face masks which they quickly removed when they started interacting with the passengers. And one of the shows had to be postponed until the entertainers had recovered. So I would suggest that both COVID and norovirus have circulated on Splendor for several weeks. Yes we frequently washed our hands and always used the hand sanitizers before entering any public space. But we didn’t wear our masks which we probably should have. I have been cruising for over 50 years and had to deal with hacking coughs next to me in the lounge, bus and restaurant and there were no general announcements about it. This is an airborne virus , so it is what it is. Closing the library or the buffet is not going to curtail it

Rare pappy1022 Posted September 22, 2023 Author #17 Share Posted September 22, 2023 This is definitely COVID. Walked by a stateroom near ours and they were delivering meds specific to COVID and telling the person to stay isolated for the remainder of the trip. We are taking all precautions and wearing a mask whenever we are on a tender, bus etc. we’ve been washing hands and using sanitizer the entire trip. All ship personnel are wearing masks.
