Rare NE John Posted September 23, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2023 I’m seriously planning an Alaska voyage on QE next summer and want to go via PG (I’ve only sailed in Britannia on QE in the past but have experienced PG on QM). But for those who have been in PG for Alaska specifically, I ask do they offer Alaska specific foods for dinner in PG? I see there is a Alaska themed specialty restaurant onboard but I don’t want to pay an additional dining charge, on top of PG premium, to eat there. One of my DW’s “foodie” concerns is that a ship may travel to all these great ports of call but the food offered onboard doesn’t reflect the region that we are visiting. The offerings are the same, but good, Cunard dining offerings. Does anyone have any feedback on this topic? Especially since Alaska season recently ended.

Rare david,Mississauga Posted September 23, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2023 Just now, david,Mississauga said: We took the cruise in PG last year and this year in QG. I know the question pertains specifically to PG but there was little diference in the daily menus between the two. After a quick look at my (not quite complete) selection of dinner menus from each trip I can say there were only a few local specialities. One was Alaska King Salmon. Others were Alaskan Rockfish and another Alaskan seafood dish. Otherwise the menus, including the à la carte menus, were basic Grills.
Rare NE John Posted September 23, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted September 23, 2023 I could be confusing the Norwegian trip specialty restaurant too. Not sure if there’s an Alaskan specialty restaurant for Grills restaurants to rely on?
intel Posted September 24, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2023 We are booked on QE/PG on a Christmas voyage While it does not apply to us it shows a sample menu for alternate dining for Alaska Can't help with advice on every day dining https://my.cunard.com/content/dam/cunard/my-cruise/dining/alternative-dining/frontier/frontier-sample-menu.pdf
sfred Posted September 24, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2023 I have only our 2019 voyage to personally compare, but back then PG was as @david,Mississauga indicated. Lots of local fish selections, some crab. I was maybe hoping for "moose wellington" but no. 😀 Most of our local cuisine dining and the freshest salmon was in port restaurants at lunch. @martinmct was on the 2023 QE voyages and kindly posted the actual Frontier specialty dining menu. See post 329 of the Queen Elizabeth location thread. Frontier hadn't been invented yet in 2019. I hope you decide to go, @NE John. Alaska ranks as one of our most favourite Cunard voyages. 1
Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted September 24, 2023 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2023 I was in PG in June 2022 and I don't remember Alaska-specific foods on the menu. Food and service were excellent, but nothing was "local." Frontier popup didn't exist then.
