danny8826 Posted November 16, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2023 Hello, If you have been to South America with MSC Seaview that departs from Santos (Sao Paulo), please share how safe you think the city is. We were told to be careful of many things including walking in a big group and not alone or just 2 people, don't wear any watches or jewelry, don't use your cell phone to take pictures or use our cell phone in public, etc...etc... If the city isn't safe, why does MSC decides to depart from this city. Please do share your experiences if you have departed from this city or visited this port before. We truly appreciate your feedback and time.
peder Posted November 16, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 16, 2023 There could be some.... extracurricular activities going on with MSC that benefit from transatlantic sailings between South America and Europe. But it's probably as simple as seeing where the puck is going: an area underserved by the cruise industry despite a growing middle class. MSC wants to build a loyal customer base when the other, more risk-averse cruise lines won't go to Brazil.

The price unbeatable and we wanted to see Brazil.
SailorfromBrazil Posted May 13 #4 Share Posted May 13 This is an old topic, but since I'm from Brasil and been on that port I'll answer so others can benefit. The Santos Port is the largest port in Brazil, and the #40 in the world. The City of Santos has developed around the port operations, and as a lot of those, ther may be some security concerns. One should be aware of that and mind one's security as anywhere. That's being said, there are a lot of safe areas, a night life, plenty Hotels and easy transportation through Taxi or Uber. The proximity to São Paulo, the largest City in Brazil (over 12M population) is the main reason it's the chosen port for many companies. The passenger terminal is large, but the ship's are getting enormous, on embarkation day in the Grandiosa, last December, the terminal was packed with about 6000 passengers waiting to board. If you have any additional questions, I'll be happy to help! Good sailings!
