Krozulo Posted January 5 #1 Share Posted January 5 When it comes to interior cabins, is there much of a difference in comfort between regular rooms laid out port/starboard versus ones that are fore/aft? For example, the cabins at the top versus the bottom?
sandyoftheseas Posted January 5 #2 Share Posted January 5 Yes there is a difference. The more mid ship cabins B316-317 and B322-323 are side ways cabins you can do a search on this site for sideways cabins and see photos. I feel they are a little bit larger than the standard cabins BUT the door opens into the bedroom area so I someone is in the bed and the cabin door is opened potentially a passenger in the hall can see them in the bed. Krozulo Posted January 5 Author #3 Share Posted January 5 I watched a couple videos on the sideways vs regular cabins and the sideways do seem more spacious. I'm not worried about someone in the hallway seeing the bed. We're practically newlyweds and are tied at the hip, and don't leave the room until everyone is ready to go. But that is good info to have just in case. I was thinking more that there'd be an issue with the rocking motion if there are waves. Maybe side to side is soothing like a rocking crib, but front to back is adrenalin inducing like a playground swing?
sandyoftheseas Posted January 5 #4 Share Posted January 5 I have been in both cabin types in moderate sea conditions. Both me and my husband have seasickness in small boats and when we went to the Antarctic we flew over the Drake passage because we were worried about seasickness that being said we have never had an issue in either cabin type of course if the seas are rough that may be a problem in either cabin. Generally with the stabilizers on ships now you may feel a slight rocking in the standard cabin it is usually a side to side where the sideways are a front to back motion but not like a swing,( As a child I loved to swing but now after a few minutes it makes me nauseous) Mid ship on a low deck is the best for sea sickness but the cabins you circles are not that far from each other so I don't think that is a factor in your choice. We like the sideways cabins for the extra room but that is just our preference.
Jadn13 Posted January 5 #5 Share Posted January 5 I always prefer sideways when booking an interior. They seem to have more space
azddave Posted January 5 #6 Share Posted January 5 Along the lines of comfort and ship movement, I and the DW much prefer the side to side motion in bed falling asleep. It is a soothing feeling, even in moderate seas.
Rare Oceansaway17 Posted January 5 #7 Share Posted January 5 I like my bed as far away from the door as possible. It is quieter
Rare New2cruise2022 Posted January 6 #8 Share Posted January 6 I realized I have a sideways interior and I’m excited because of this post. Thanks to all for sharing.
Mud_Shark Posted January 6 #9 Share Posted January 6 My wife is more prone to sea sickness than I am when the ship rocks. Usually, the sideways cabins are better for her, as the rocking is felt more up and down than sideways (unless the waves are pounding from a cross wind), and she feels it is more easy to take from a sleeping perspective. That said, she is usually fine either way after a day or two. And generally, seas are less unsettled in the Caribbean than in the pacific, so it is a bit less of a concern for Caribbean cruises for us.

kywildcatfanone Posted January 6 #11 Share Posted January 6 We get a side by side when we can.
minnesotasisu Posted January 6 #12 Share Posted January 6 We have had both and prefer the perpendicular ones compared to the ones which are parallel to the ship's length for two reasons: The bed is farther away from the hallway which makes it a bit quieter for sleeping. We also find the storage area seemed bigger
