CameronC. Posted February 4 #1 Share Posted February 4 Hi All! So this won’t really be my first cruise I’ve been on a dozen or so however my last was when I was sixteen I’m now in my early thirties. I’ll be cruising on the Discovery Princess on Dec 21 for the Christmas Mexican riviera trip. I used to have a blast as a kid, but obviously things will be different as a single guy in his early thirties. What would y'all recommend in terms of ship board activities to meet people of a similar age to hang out with and make some friends? What all is there to do? I’m a big history and fitness buff if that helps provide some guidance. My parents are also going, and I’m sure I’ll spend some time with them. But I want them to have some time to themselves as it’s also their anniversary that week.
Rare John Bull Posted February 4 #2 Share Posted February 4 Since your parents are going too this may not work out, but.... Share a dining table for dinner. If you're on anytime/mytime/freedom/whatever-Princess-call-unassigned dining, ask at the door to be seated on a large table. But see if you can be switched to traditional dining........... If you're on traditional dining (same table, same early or late fixed-time every evening) you'll probably be seated on a large table of solos. I'm jealous of them - they usually have a ball, go on to the theatre or a bar as a group, and often go ashore mob-handed. There will be one or two solos' events early in the cruise, perhaps a breakfast or a get-to-know you in a bar. Check at Guest Relations - they're not always well-promoted. Discovery Princess is a pretty big ship, about 3500 pax., more like a city than a village. Choose one or two bars or other locations to frequent - most folk do, so you'll see faces that you've seen before. Quizzes are a good activity for mixing - folk usually welcome others into a team, gives them more chance of winning fantastic 😏 prizes like lanyards, pens, key fobs etc JB 🙂
jbrinkm Posted February 7 #3 Share Posted February 7 Join your roll call and see if anyone wants to meet up for a slot pull, or a social/sport event, or a certain bar, etc.
AllHandsAstern Posted February 8 #4 Share Posted February 8 Sharing a table is great advice but it could be anywhere. My wife and I shared a table at sailaway with a group of guys from upstate NY. Long story short, we're best friends now
john watson Posted February 17 #5 Share Posted February 17 You can share tables at breakfast and lunch if you want. They do solo traveller coffee mornings and you could do one or two of them. Sea day games and activities sometimes have a mixed crowd. Spectating at the casino you meet another gang. It is all about sometimes mixing and sometime not. DeclanAllen Posted May 22 #6 Share Posted May 22 Set sail for fun! Cruises can be a fantastic way to meet new people and explore new places, and it sounds like your trip on the Discovery Princess has the potential to be amazing. The Discovery Princess offers a variety of activities geared towards adults, perfect for meeting people in your age range. Here are a few ideas: These can be a fun way to break the ice and meet new people in a casual setting. Many cruises have themed trivia nights or game shows throughout the week.
