Nlexi912 Posted April 7 #1 Share Posted April 7 I just booked a 7 day cruise and Cheers package is $59.99 a day. Is that what everyone is paying, does it ever go down that I should wait to buy or do they have sales with a bit lower prices? What are others paying for 6 plus days? (I know 5 days and under are higher in price so specifically looking for those that have 7 day cruises). Thank you.
stobe1 Posted April 7 #2 Share Posted April 7 No. They never put Cheers on sale and the price will only go up. In fact, based on the recent increase in the cost of a case of water, I fully expect Cheers prices will go up soon as well. If you waited until you board the ahip to get Cheers you definitely would be paying more since you dont get the pre-sailing discount. The only time Cheers ever went on sale was during the 'rona shutdown and that was just a way to keep some revenue coming in during the pandemic.
mz-s Posted April 7 #3 Share Posted April 7 It never goes on sale and it will probably be more expensive if you wait, so if you want it buy it now.

Use Carnival Gift Cards thru AARP to save 10% when purchasing - but otherwise I haven't seen a deal on the drinks package unless packaged with the cruise fare, etc. in awhile. Otherwise, use this calculator to see if it makes sense: https://www.cruzely.com/cruise-line-drink-package-calculator/

nc762shooter Posted April 8 #8 Share Posted April 8 This calculator is very helpful: Cruise Drink Package Calculator - Cruise Spotlight Don't forget about bottled water, fancy coffee, milkshakes, soda and all the other non-alcoholic drinks Cheers lets you get as well, pretty easy to break even without feeling like you need to down a bunch of cocktails every day.

And also don't forget to average things out, one will probably have more to drink on a sea day and less on a port day, but 8 drinks on a sea day and 4 drinks on a port day averages out to 6.

In fact if you want to play it safe just put in what you think you might drink on a port day and see where that puts you. Port days you can always grab a fancy coffee or juice or soda in the morning and some bottled water to take off the ship. Then even if you're off the ship almost the full time in port I imagine most would still grab a drink once back on board, then at least 3 or 4 more throughout dinner and the evening. If anyone thinks a few drinks between 5 pm and turning in for the evening is way too many then Cheers is probably not worth it for them 😁😁😁 Edited April 8 by nc762shooter
sgttami Posted April 8 #11 Share Posted April 8 When I've had Cheers I drank the same on port days as sea days and it was always "worth it" for me to have the package. I don't drink milkshakes, sodas, and waters and it was still a deal.
Rare ninjacat123 Posted April 8 #12 Share Posted April 8 With CHEERS I find I order "lighter" drinks like an Aperol Spritz or a Mimosa. Without CHEERS, I'm trying to get more "bang for my buck" with my drink order. Even though the cost is similar to a cocktail that has more "punch" I don't feel so woozy at the end of the day. CHEERS is worth it to me👍
Sabalon Posted April 8 #13 Share Posted April 8 When we were in Cozumel, my wife found a ring she liked. Her justification was "yeah..it's a little pricey, but I figure so is your alcohol bill." Wish they had a way to let just one person do it - I fully understand the reasons, but my wife can't drink alcohol, can't drink coffee, etc... I could get my moneys worth, but there is no way I'd spend 2 peoples worth in drinks.

Along the top right just before your name it says AARP rewards. click there then scroll down until you see show all rewards. a red bar in the center of the page. click that and then look for carnival gift card.

The big difference between port days and sea days for the wife and I is port days we don't need to purchase a bucket of beer or a bottle of wine at dinner to keep our 15 from running out too early LOL. In fact one cruise we were debating on getting Cheers in case my wife was pregnant by the time we sailed, crunching the numbers we could have fairly easily broken even if not still coming out ahead even if she hadn't been able to order alcoholic drinks.

Thanks. I never bothered with their (or most other) rewards program(s) - I hate being nagged to do stuff that I might be doing - or won’t ever do - anyway. Guess I’ll have to join for this though. 10% on Cheers over 6-8 weeks per year on CCL ships adds up. Thanks much for the tip!
c85f9 Posted April 8 #18 Share Posted April 8 Keep an eye out for ‘sales’ that include cheers as part of the package! I booked this way last year and it worked out to only $150 pp more than the cruise fare alone 😳

stobe1 Posted April 9 #20 Share Posted April 9 I usually post this anytime a Cheers question comes up. I should save it to my notes so I can just copy and paste it so I dont have to rewrite it everytime.. The 15 alcohol drink limit per day can go pretty quick, even on a port day. If you have a bloody mary or espresso martini or mimosa or michelada or 3 before and with breakfast, a beer or two with lunch, a few pina coladas or daquiris lounging by the pool late morning/early afternoon or a few cocktails trying your luck in the casino, a cocktail at Alchemy before dinner, a glass of wine with dinner and then a few PM cocktails or night caps at the piano bar, casino, Punchliner's or night club at night and you can blow through 15 fairly easily. Port days just take out the afternoon/lunch time drinks and have a few extra at Alchemy or one of the other specialty bars on the newer Excel class ships later at night and you can still get up to your limit without even trying.
Nlexi912 Posted April 9 Author #21 Share Posted April 9 Thanks for all that are responding, just to clarify…. My question wasn’t regarding if I should get the cheers package or not (I always get it and is worth it for me!). I was just wondering if it ever drops in price below the $59.99. I’ve been cruising RCC a lot and it’s been awhile that I’ve been on Carnival. In regards to the AARP savings, do I need some kind of rewards points to get discounted gift cards or I can just join and buy them for 10% off? Rare CruzerDeb Posted April 9 #24 Share Posted April 9 For those with more Cheers experience than I - can I use the pkg for a bucket of beer? Can I order a beer and not have it opened so I can take it back to my room for later?

You can order up to 15 beers a day obviously, and they'll give you an ice bucket if you ask, but you can only order a single alcoholic drink at a time, and at least 5 minutes between drink orders. You can ask them to not open your drinks but they are supposed to open them to discourage hoarding. Edited April 9 by mz-s
