Yes. If taken literally. The idiom "every two minutes" means "Very frequently; continually

adverb. (figuratively) Very frequently; continually." Like, "Ever since I appeared on television, the phone has been ringing every five minutes." The waiter came back as soon as I finished the cake. He must have been keeping his eye on my progress. It happens quite often in the YC restaurant as well. I tipped over my ice cream sundae and my waiter was at my side so fast he had to have been watching close by. My DW made mention the super efficient clean up and new ice cream sundae replacement with out turning my head to summon anyone.

But I mean that it's annoying when it happens for real and it does! I hate that!

Yes. There is no right or wrong, just preferences. We, on the other hand, enjoy the 'attention'. We pay extra for it. What we "hate" is paying extra and not getting the extra attention. MSC seems very good at providing both of us a great product.

I think that MSC staff are good at understanding how much attention their customers want. We don't want the extra attention and it seems like they understand that.

I should really hate if that happened and I should regret tipping. I think that it's superannoying when they come to our table every 2 minutes to see if everything is okay! If something is wrong or I want something more I let them know!

For me that is NOT good service.

I'd rather tell the waiter that everything is fine and send him/her on his/her way than not have an attentive waiter! I hate having to flag waitstaff down because it decreases my enjoyment of the meal to have to focus on that instead of the food or the conversation

Waiters can be attentive without coming to the table every second minute. My experience is that they are very easy to get eyecontact with in the YC when I want and a few seconds later they come to my table and that's what I want.

This reminds me of a Henny Youngman witticism, "When I go to a restaurant, I always ask the manager, 'give me a table near a waiter'."  Finding attentive waiters must be only an American problem.

In a ridiculous effort to set this train of thoughts back to the initial subject of tipping in the YC, I am always amazed at the dramatically increased attentiveness displayed by all customer facing staff on the last few days of a cruise! 😉

We had tips automatically added on by my travel agent cause we didn't want to think about it and saw it as the added on price to do YC 😊

The only problem with any prepayment is in event of needing to cancel it takes minimum 2 billing cycles to get refunded. Then of course one cannot use any obc to pay these incidental fees, because one prepaid.

As we are all lead to believe. BUT these cruise lines are not subject to oversight from any significant source. That is why they are foreign flagged. Here is a posting from a former crew member.  The last statement is the 'kicker' ..."IF".

Ex-crew here, although I wasn't part of the crew who received gratuities.

The simple explanation is that most of the service crew are guaranteed a certain wage per month, partially paid for by the cruise line and partially via gratuities, and if the amount of gratuities received during the cruise aren't enough to reach that guaranteed amount, the cruise will make up the shortfall. My understanding is that the maths is done so that if everyone on board the ship sailing at it's usual sailing capacity leaves their gratuities turned on, the amount in the pool will be enough to cover that wage for everyone. In the event people do overpay, it does indeed mean the crew get paid more- IF the cruise line doesn't take a cut or reduce their contribution, the crew's pay does increase."

It is the same in a lot of the US.

For example, in my part of the US, minimum wage is $12/hr. If you are a tipped worker, your employer could pay as little as $2.13/hr. So, a waiter would need to make $10 per hour worked just to get to minimum wage (not a livable wage). And that is hard when people sit in a diner, order $50 of food, and leave a couple of bucks on a table after sitting there 2 hours.

We always ask our TA to pre-pay our gratuities.  Then once aboard we tip additional at our discretion based on service received, or not received.

The only problem is when one gets a non refundable OBC and has to use it or lose it. The Non refundable OBC can be used to pay these hotel service charges instead of looking for non essentials to spend it on.  Also in the event of cancellation it will be just another refund to worry about getting credited in a timely manner.

Not worried about non-refundable OBC.  My time in the casino more than takes up what little OBC I may get.
