lovecruzin Posted May 14 #52 Share Posted May 14 Maybe due to the late arrival in Juneau, people were lined up to exit before the gangway was open. I am going to guess several hundred. After seeing the line, we realized that perhaps retreat guests had priority, thank goodness the concierge was escorting guests to a separate line. We had an independent excursion which accommodated our delay by picking us up at the AJ dock vs the tram.

We have the temp set for about 67. I need short sleeve on the ship and long sleeve off. I am waiting for laundry to come back.

crzndeb Posted May 15 #57 Share Posted May 15 I was a bit skeptical we would make it to Dawes, since I knew from cruising in May, we have been unsuccessful with Ovation before and also it didn’t make it this week, but Captain Matt made it. Maybe size does matter 😉

It was a series of cruises, and if I remember correctly, was a B2B2B2B. And I will have to admit that it was a rather long time -- I quilt, we have hobbies (not just sitting on a cruise ship) and volunteer activities. Sometimes you just need to return to real life. But then again -- no one has to vacuum the stateroom, we have Zenith unlimited laundry, we don't do the dishes, and so forth. And the novelty unlimited food was lost for us around 2009. Neither the hubby nor I rarely gain any weight on a cruise. G. I see why people are basically selling everything and moving onto a cruise ship. TinyG Posted May 20 Author #60 Share Posted May 20 Back to the review, civilization, and high speed internet. …if some of the comments/photos are here again, sorry about that. It’s hard to go back between pages and figure where I was with posting. I’ll try and now have the comments with the photos. After dinner went thru the shops had some fun at the martini bar and after dinner enjoyed some silent disco before heading back to the cabin. Our cabin was pretty good for sleeping not much to comment about. Some night when the music was loud you could hear a faint noise. Breakfast was as usual, I thought the plates were small about the size of a salad plate. Those were probably the only clean ones at the time. Did get a plate still with potatoes or something it was kinda big and should have been seen. Met Debra in the Eden sitting area nice to chat with her. We picked up our Effy charms for the day. They had left little pockets in every stateroom hoping you would like to come and look at items for sale. It was not calling me so we headed to the solarium and relaxed. The fog horns are in use today. Hopefully the sun will peak out today. Tonight is chic night! Just back at Eden we are just watching the wake, now we have the same view, but this is warmer and it’s Elite happy hour. Okay both works for us. All ready and decked out and we ate back at the Cosmopolitan restaurant again and they sat us at the same table. Dinner was onion soup, chicken breast and no dessert. The seas were very rough. Captain Matt told us that since we had left late from Vancouver that this also would make for a late arrival in Juneau. We have booked our own Salmon bake but it’s not till 5PM. After dinner we headed to Cafe El Bacio for a tea for our dessert. We watched on tv the nature talk about whales. Very interesting. We were rocked to sleep.

TinyG Posted May 20 Author #62 Share Posted May 20 I’m add the comments for the previously posted photos. Between the phone, cloud notes and the computer sorry the fonts are all over the place. Monday May 13, Day 3 Salmon Bake at Juneau. So many ships. Since we had to stand in the rain for a while to get to the shuttle, made the day get pretty cold once you get into town we were able to walk around. We walked down to the Red Dog Saloon and had a couple rounds of drinks while we waited for our departure time underneath the tram was the meeting point for the salmon bake, once we arrived we had our great food as we had last year and really enjoyed ourselves. Bought some of the salmon glaze so we can make our salmon at home and make it feel like we’re still back in Juneau after that we had back to the ship and we were going to go shopping, but we just said there was too many people and we had back since we are just eaten. We went to the bar and just relaxed with a cocktail dinner reservation at 9 o’clock for Tuscan and I did try to have something, but I was too full so I settled for the Asian ginger, soup, shrimp cocktail, and a lovely tea for dessert after our walking and exploring for the day we had decided to head home to the cabin.

TinyG Posted May 20 Author #64 Share Posted May 20 (edited) May 14th, Tuesday Day 4 Today we are in Skagway, and again there are four ships. It was not raining, and not as cold as yesterday. We walked up and down the both sides of the street. Stopped in a few shops got some popcorn stopped at a really nice shop. Found a cute apron. Picked up some potato chips at the hardware store and the counter person said they’re twice as much at the grocery store so if you want some chips, get them at the hardware store. Saw Debra in town caught up with her and her plans. We headed back to the ship it started to rain so we were glad we had called it a day. headed to Ocean view for a quick lunch And ice cream since we had not been there before After having a little nap perhaps in that delivered lounger. We spend some time on the balcony. So many helicopters tours leaving, usually in sets of three waking me from my slumber. We showered and headed to the Martini bar before we checked in for dinner at Eden. Debra found us. Sat with her and Mary & Wayne for a pre dinner cocktail. Eden dinner was outstanding. So perfect. We both could not eat the extra dessert. So the server said we could have the dessert delivered from room service. It was in our cabin when we came back and a cute little box of candies. We stopped in for the show. A Hot Summer Nights Dream!! Placed ourselves at the back even though I have my earplugs. I am hoping for the best! Actually I was able to stay through the entire show. I thought it was much better on sound vs other ships. Tonight’s cast was going to be the last time this entire ensemble would be together. I guess they’re now going to different places/ships. Met up with Deborah Mary and Wayne at the Eden bar before heading down to dinner. Nice to catch up on our day and share some fun conversations. Eden dinner was very nice. My selection was Beef Fillet and the Beef Wellington and then he suggested that we share the lobster which was outstanding. Ok twist our arms… So my birthday is on Saturday it was kind of funny to see a birthday cake. Be presented to my husband Happy Birthday Jeffrey when it’s not even his birthday or his name. I’m pretty sure that Jeffrey still wondering where his birthday cake is. Then Jenn the lady next to me has her birthday is on the 17th. It became a funny joke about the cake and they brought both of our new cakes to us, and we all had a good laugh. It was funny that my cake said Happy Birlhday. Fast writing in chocolate is tricky! TinyG Posted May 20 Author #66 Share Posted May 20 We went to the shops, and I got my Tiffany perfume, which I’ve been wanting to buy with my onboard credit. While they did have a nice Gucci bag, you really have to price check bags from What Goes Around Come around. The bag I like was the same price this time online, but was marked up and easy to see it thru the tag. Always check the price online. before buying. By the way this is pitch dark, the camera makes it see very light. We did better here than Norway and on the Northern Lights excursion. It looks like nothing till you point a camera. My daughter was flight from SFO to Boston she saw this with her camera. With her eyes just the light fog looking stuff.
TinyG Posted May 21 Author #69 Share Posted May 21 Wednesday 15th Day 5 Dawes Glacier & Endicott Arm Up at 7:30 and saw the glacier by 8AM. We enjoyed our time on our Aft balcony. The glacier is so pretty and seeing all the big chunks floated by and as we left the Sun came out making our photos even better! We only watched part of the return before heading into Oceanview Cafe for breakfast. It was a real struggle to try and find a place to sit down, we ended up sitting with another couple so we could eat. They could used more areas to sit and watch the scenery.
TinyG Posted May 21 Author #70 Share Posted May 21 In the afternoon we went to the magic carpet and saw Wayne and Mary. We stayed there for about half hour/45 minutes until we were frozen and then we left. Thanks again for the blankets Mary! We enjoyed our wake view for a while and we might have had a nap.

We gone to the Gold Creek Salmon Bake every time we have been to Juneau. The first time the glaze was already on the fish, cooking on the wet Alderwood. The glaze had the caramelization from the cooked brown sugar. It has an awesome flavor. Now they spoon it over the fish. I’m sure it’s cooked the glaze, but I’d rather not see any granular sugar. I’m thinking that they are going thru so much glaze maybe not enough time for it to get hot enough. Here it is. We bought 3 packs and I will try my ingredients vs packaged. But if you don’t want to bother people get the glaze shipped all the time.
TinyG Posted May 21 Author #73 Share Posted May 21 Dinner in the Normandie restaurant. You could only have one lobster tail, which is all I needed added the Beef Wellington, both the crust and the meat could have stayed cooking longer. Did not eat the hard potato tower. Martini bar mandatory stop by before heading back to our cabin.
TinyG Posted May 21 Author #74 Share Posted May 21 Speaking about our cabin which is 145 or 149 steps from the mid ship elevators to the aft of the ship. We were at 10280. There is a door you would need to go between to get to cabin 10273 Not sure why it’s there. We did not hear it.

Little disappointing to have a dirty room on arrival. Why let us on at the time to be dissatisfied. If the Elites can come sooner, only to leave your room. I am glad to be on the ship and not in a line. I know turn around day all the crew members dread. We left be and went on our way. No one likes to board earlier than me (!), but if they’re boarding around 10:30am, there’s no way I’d expect a room to be ready. Simply not enough time to turnover a huge ship in that small window of time IMO.
