cusematt4 Posted May 12 #1 Share Posted May 12 Hi all - for anyone who has done a princess land tour, is the luggage transfer a safe process? Does anyone know of anyone who has had their bag lost in the lodge to lodge transfer, or lodge to ship? From anchorage to the lodges and the lodge to the ship, are our bags transferred with others on our tour only, or is it consolidated with many others who are on other tours, potentially making it easier to get mixed up or lost? Thank you.
Mr_Steve_&_Me Posted May 12 #2 Share Posted May 12 I have done 2 Alaska cruise tours with Princess and heading to Fairbanks Tuesday to start another. I never heard of anyone having luggage issues. It moves by truck from one place to the next. It may get to a lodge a few hours after we do, so be sure your backpack or small bag has any meds you need. Enjoy! They do a fabulous job with these trips.
Torfamm Posted May 12 #3 Share Posted May 12 We've done a 6 night rail tour from Fairbanks to Anchorage with Princess and had absolutely no problem with luggage. Their process seems very well organized.
Mr_Steve_&_Me Posted May 12 #4 Share Posted May 12 Correction, as I think about this. Luggage travels under the bus, but moves by truck when we move by train .
cusematt4 Posted May 12 Author #5 Share Posted May 12 Hi all, we are doing a pre cruise land tour in Alaska. I’ve seen conflicting info on luggage allowances. Are we allowed a large suitcase (airline checked) plus a small rolling suitcase (airline carry on)? I’ve seen conflicting info if we can have them transport both a large rolling and small rolling. Is it technically not recommended/allowed but will be accepted?

We leave for our cruisetour in a couple weeks, and our Travel Summary says on a couple days luggage will be transported separately and won't be delivered until later in the evening. We're planning accordingly 🙂 We also use air tags so we can track our luggage which is extra peace of mind.

Mr_Steve_&_Me Posted May 12 #9 Share Posted May 12 I had forgotten to move our AirTags to the bigger luggage we are bringing this time. Thanks for the reminder. Done!

Mr_Steve_&_Me Posted May 12 #11 Share Posted May 12 You can transport both large and small roller bags UNDER the bus or inside a truck, but when ( and if) you travel by bus or train, you cannot take your smaller roller bag inside. Just not enough room. For inside bus or train, a backpack works best.
lstone19 Posted May 12 #12 Share Posted May 12 You'll have two types of luggage when on a cruise tour: "Meet me tonight" for stuff you need on the tour and "Meet me on the ship" for stuff you don't need until on the ship. I assume the former normally moves with you on the bus but may be on a truck and might be combined with others doing the same move (e.g. a Connoisseur cruise tour and a regular cruise tour both going from Denali to Talkeetna (McKinley Lodge) on the same day). For the "meet me on the ship", I'd guess all luggage from all cruise tours headed to the same cruise are held at the first hotel (Anchorage or Fairbanks) until the day of the cruise and then trucked to the ship. JerseyExplora Posted May 12 #13 Share Posted May 12 For the cruise tours, luggage is left either right by the door or right outside in the hallway. It's picked up early in the morning. The tags are color coded based on where the luggage is going. I saw a lot of luggage outside going to different lodges than where I was headed. The amount of luggage they move for these cruise tours is just massive. They seem to have the system down well. At one location I did have a piece of luggage that belonged to another guest. I notified staff as soon as I saw it. I imagine that guest was without their luggage for a bit.
