zeberdee Posted May 18 #1 Share Posted May 18 For all you Brits, I've just seen Perry Grant on Britain's got talent. He got through to the next round. We saw him in January, he was so funny.
bouhunter Posted May 19 #2 Share Posted May 19 Saw him a couple months ago on Explorer. He has a lot of avid fans!
The Fun Researcher Posted May 19 #3 Share Posted May 19 He was on the Anthem out of Bayonne march 2023. He is definitely a character. Stopped at his show for at least a little while each evening. He is very fun to watch the first couple of times but his show is almost identical word for word each evening. Still, had some nice chats with him after his shows. Hope he goes far in BGT
mets123 Posted May 19 #4 Share Posted May 19 He is an acquired taste. But you're right. His routine is the same every day.

Many years ago, we were on a Holland America ship and he was just a lounge act. We walked by the lounge, on the way to the theater several times and it seemed like the place was full. One night, apparently the guest entertainer missed the ship so they moved him up to the main theater. The place was full, but after about ten minutes, it was like somebody tripped the fire alarm, mass exodus, us included.

And conversely we've seen his theatre shows on both Royal and Celebrity ships and have never witnessed a mass exodus...
gavvy Posted May 20 #7 Share Posted May 20 I saw him on Anthem and thought he was rude and quite insulting with backhanded comments to some in the audience, I'm sure I heard his contract was not renewed on here shortly after. We also watched him in 270 doing a sound check one afternoon and he was talking into an open mike to the tech guys upstairs, he was err blunt and annoyed to say the least with them. I'm not surprised he's not on RCL at the moment with his attitude. 1

We enjoyed the first show we saw of his but it faded quickly after that.

Believe it or not some book cruises just because he is there.

Maybe he will do well. Still think he has a massive attitude problem though 😕
Baron Barracuda Posted May 21 #11 Share Posted May 21 (edited) For a long time he was a fixture in Michael's Club on X's Eclipse. Had a very loyal following of elderly blue haired ladies who sailed just because of him. I was in my 50's back then and his music was from well before my time. And if BGT is similar to AGT most acts that aren't totally lame (and some that are) get through the first round. Then they trim down the number of acts off camera. luvbrady Posted May 21 #12 Share Posted May 21 The first night on Explorer he was moderately entertaining- on lather, rinse and repeat we found him to be borderline insufferable. As did the bartender who was quite pleased to be transferring to the casino bar the next cruise. As noted he did not stray from his script which ended up being redundant and borderline condescending. Being rude, insulting and a bully is part of his show. There are lot of people who love that. I think it is sick but to each their own. As some have mentioned here he has fans who book for his show. And of course we have The Quest adult scavenger hunt that's can be just as risque with bawdily humor. The elephant in the room is much of his show and his persona is about the old-fashioned Gay humor similar to Wayland Flowers and Madame and Peter Allan. His humor isn't anything different than something you'd hear on Golden Girls, Monty Python, Benny Hill. Edited May 22 by kwokpot

Abusing individual passengers as part of his show might be comedy to you but I think it is sad.

Nope. And when a comedian did pick on an audience member they were not mean. Or abusive. He treated one lady like she was dirt. cruisegus Posted May 22 #20 Share Posted May 22 None of the anti Perry comments sound like the performer I saw a couple of years ago. I little different and with tons of energy, that's the Perry show I remember, with lots of audience singalong. High energy with a packed audience in schooner every night
neverbeenhere Posted May 22 #21 Share Posted May 22 Perry was a Celebrity regular for a bit of time. My only suggestions are that whether you love the show or not… smile, laugh(grimace), clap and do not leave before the performance is over. Who would sit and listen to something they really don’t like? There are many other things to do that you like. Why waste 40-45 minutes of your vacation that you can’t get back?

I think the big difference is if you are going to a comedy club it's fair game and you sort of expect to be picked on. Listening to a piano show in the bar is a bit different. While he does have his fans his show is a lot different to what you would expect listening to a lounge act in a relaxed bar, we sat through it and thought wow really

I doubt most people felt an obligation to stay "until it was over".......
