Second river cruise which river

I am currently on the Danube.  Which rivers should I consider for my second river cruise?

 

BTW I am totally impressed with river cruising…

Depends how far you want to travel.  For an American like you, there is the Mississippi.  In Europe, there is also the Rhine, the Main, the Seine and the Douro.  There used to be the Volga too but it is off-limits for the foreseeable future.  If you want to travel further, there is the Mekong in Vietnam and Cambodia which is very different from European rivers but supposedly amazing.

Looks like there are companies adding South America as well. Sorry yes you’ve opened a can of worms so choose a continent then research but if you want to stay in beautiful Europe try the Rhine then you can compare these two great waterways. The decision will keep you busy for a while but the choice of which cruise well shall we say just a tad longer, enjoy yourself!

Or how about the Rhône the South of France wonderful.

I would suggest the Rhône or the Seine for a second cruise.  Also Tulip Time if you can travel in April.  Or the Douro.  Each of these will give you a very different cultural vibe than the cruise you are now on.  [And since you seem to have caught the river cruising bug, all of these will eventually be on your list!]  Happy cruising!

As @Host Jazzbeau says, once you have the river cruising bug then you'll discover there aren't enough rivers.

 

But, to answer your question, assuming the on-board experience is just what you want, then what do you want off the boat?

 

In other words, what is important to you that you want to see or experience? Is it historic sites, ancient towns, art, food, beer, wine? Or attractive scenery observed from the boat?

 

How long do you want to spend? Do you want to spend all the time on the cruise, or have hotel time at  before or/and after the cruise?

 

If you have no strong preferences, than pick any cruise as you'll enjoy it.

The only other one we've done so far is Nuremburg to Luxemburg. AmaWaterways calls this 'Rivers and Castles'. I would highly recommend this in general. 

Have the Rhine booked for next spring.

That said, other than the Mississippi, everything mentioned are ones we'll look at doing at some point. We've lived within an hour of the Mississippi our entire lives, currently a 10 minute walk. It's not that exciting to us🤣

BTW, the Danube is usually split into 2 distinct sections by Budapest They are pretty different. You didn't say which section you did, or if you did the whole thing, but doing the other section could go on your list. Depending on which one, not as high as others.

We did the Rhine first, 4 years ago, and LOVED our tulip cruise last month.

 

Here in the US, the Mississippi has no appeal (hate the heat, would rather spend my dollars in parts of the country more aligned with my values), but the Columbia looks intriguing--Cascades, Lewis and Clark history, etc.

Longer trips like the one you are on :Rhone & Seine combined or the Rhine & Moselle combined. There are lots of shorter cruises of 8-14 days or so. Newer cruises are always popping up. 

 

You don't say whom you are sailing with, but glance through their itineraries, and google "x river cruise". Don't take the sponsored links at the top, that's just picking up on "river cruise". Look at the lines that offer the name of the river in it's link. So many rivers, and every time I think we are down to 4-5 left to see, they bring out new itineraries.......

My vote would be the Rhine, Amsterdam to/from Basel.  Very nice sailing by all the castles and some pretty nice stops--Amsterdam, Cologne, Strasbourg and more.
