That is how I read it, but I could be mistaken. Also looks like Lindt chocolates on the bed, did you bring your own, or did the ship provide that? Not sure about the free shuttle; we did meet a couple that said they took the bus there. Lindt chocolates were from the ship. 1
Rare QuattroRomeo Posted May 29 Author #78 Share Posted May 29 Correction to my post about the Canaletto salad- it had candied walnuts, not almonds.
Greysandy Posted May 29 #79 Share Posted May 29 Thanks so much for posting all of the information and photos! We are taking the 14 day NB and SB Alaska trip on the Noordam starting 6/22/24. We also enjoy the service and food in the Canaletto every time we eat there. Thank you for commenting on the music, because we were definitely disappointed to not have BB Kings, but if the band in the Rolling Stone Room is good, we will be happy, as well as the nice trio in the Ocean Bar. We have not been impressed in the last few years with the duo in the Billboard, singing too much Disney and not enough classic hits, but will approach with an open mind this time. I'm even more excited for our trip now!

Rare QuattroRomeo Posted May 30 Author #81 Share Posted May 30 (edited) Hello from Juneau. We arrived a bit t early this morning so had time to eat breakfast in MDR before our tour. Today we did the Whales and Mendenhall glacier Photo Safari. We met our guide, Doug and headed out for about a 30 min drive to Auke Bay to meet our boat. Doug was a great guide and gave commentary throughout. Our group was 14 people, the maximum for this tour, and that was just right. Rare QuattroRomeo Posted May 30 Author #82 Share Posted May 30 We arrived at the marina and had time for a restroom break before boarding, as there is only a marine head on board. The ramp down to the boat is quite steep but there is a handrail. Once on the boat, Doug and Capt Andy gave the safety rules and we headed out. Doug helped us with camera settings. Any time there was a sighting he would open up the windows. We saw quite a few whale tails in the distance, and a calf that was lunge feeding along the shoreline.
Rare QuattroRomeo Posted May 30 Author #83 Share Posted May 30 We took lots of photos and videos on my camera and DH's cell phone; I don't have the equipment or expertise to get closeups with moving objects but it was thrilling to see. The captain gave us a bonus ride to see the Mendenhall glacier from the boat, which was a great vantage point from the water. I'll have to sort through my other camera shots and download any good ones later. Once we got back to the marina we drove to a trail in the Tongass National Forest. We walked along the trail of old growth forest, Doug pointed out markers where the glacier ice used to reach up to. We ended up at the Mendenhall Glacier site. The trail was beautiful. The walk is longer and steeper in places than we expected from the tour de scription. Some people chose to stay in the bus for this part.

Rare QuattroRomeo Posted May 31 Author #94 Share Posted May 31 Last night we had dinner in MDR. Chicken noodle soup- the broth was very good. Caesar salad was good. Entree was fresh halibut and it was excellent. For dessert I tried the caramel stroopwaffel cheesecake. Nice flavour, but I don't think the stroopwaffel added anything.
Rare QuattroRomeo Posted May 31 Author #95 Share Posted May 31 Today we were in Skagway, and did the all day Yukon and Suspension Bridge bus tour. We had a nice sunny day for it! We did the same tour last year and a similar one the year before. Rhonda was our guide and she provided plenty of stories along the way.

cruzingnut Posted May 31 #100 Share Posted May 31 Thanks for your great description and the pictures from the Juneau tour! Looks amazing and the small size sounds perfect. I may have to consider it in August. Linda R. 1
