Pre Cruise Rome visit

What is the best area to stay in Rome in order to see the sights and then get to the cruise port?  Hotel and restaurant suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I think it's best to be right in the historic center, where you can walk to most sites and where you'll find hundreds of restaurants to choose from.

 

This is the area roughly circumscribed by the triangle formed by Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, and Tiburtina Island.  Within that area there are lot of choices in various price ranges.

 

How are you thinking about getting to the port?
