Port Canaveral to MCO how early for international flight

Recommended Posts

Getting into PC at 7 am , after a transatlantic in December

Just got an email that our flight has been moved from 2:30 pm to 11:30 am , it is international flight to Toronto

is it doable?
We would carry our bags off ourselves and get an Uber to MCO

Probably. Airport arrival for international flights out of the US is generally three hours or so.

You could very well clear  immigration on landing at Pearson and not on the US side.

The OP will definitely clear Canadian Immigration and Customs at Toronto,  not Orlando.

That is really a tight flight. Security at MCO is always a mess, and getting off the ship before 8 is problematic at best. It is about an hour from port to airport. I wouldn’t book that flight.

That's an "all success" schedule. One hiccup and you won't make it.

You need to be off the ship at the curb 8am, and in an Uber. Drop off at airport 9 to 9:15. Through check in (long) and security (longer unless you have precheck) - 9:30 to 10:30 then train ride and get to airside gate 11:00 when you are due for boarding.

Super tight.

You most likely will be fine.. but it's up to you if you want chance it, you never know if there is traffic, or the ship is delayed.....but I would do self assist and book private transportation, we fly on jetblue which is in the international flight terminal at MCO .. terminal C , and we were off the ship by 730am, and at the airport by 9am.  The 2 times I have been in terminal C.. the security lines have never been long.. usually around 10-15 minutes tops, and the 1st time was at 930 in the morning and the 2nd time was 5pm ... it was the fastest TSA checkpoint I have ever gone through., and I don't have TSA precheck.

That would be safer.

But if you keep your current flight, keep an eye on WestJet's timetable as they could later add your original flight back to their schedule. They've pared their schedule to 3X daily nonstops but between now and then they could add a 4th daily. That's happened to me before. If they do, you can call them and ask to be put back on your original flight.

WestJet flies out of terminal B according to the MCO website.

Don't think Air Canada is in terminal C.. so in that case terminal A and B are hectic., you may want to visit Kennedy Space Center and catch a flight the next day.

a BIG factor is the port schedule for the day. Some days there is one or two ships turning around and usually things are OK and you'll have no issues. Other days there can be 4,5 even SIX and then things get crazy. You can find the schedule at https://www.portcanaveral.com/Cruise/Cruise-Lines-Schedules  click the schedule button ... they usually have about 6 months available.

Also recognize that today easily 50% of the folks on the ship with you plan to be the first to walk off early to beat the crowd. On a recent RCCL cruise folks started queuing up to be first off around 4am. And as a 'small town' Cape Canaveral ain't overflowing with UBER drivers . . .

WestJet had a 30% off sale , which drop there 2:30 pm direct  flight Toronto to a reasonable price so we were able to book that flight

WestJet has a 2:30 direct flight from Orlando to Toronto?? The only options that I was given was 11:30 or 8:00 pm.

You really lucked out then! I wish that 2:25 was an option for our trip. I set sail next month and the only options for WestJet that I had were 11:35 am or 8:00 pm. We booked the 11:35 am flight. We're hoping to be off the ship by 7:30. We're Nexus holders and have TSA Precheck, so fingers crossed that things will run smoothly!

We thought there was just too much that could go wrong after a transatlantic cruise

Have you checked out Porter flight times ? Or do you just fly Westjet ?

Porter only has one return flight … 8:30 pm. Air Canada’s fare was a good $500 more than WJ, so we just stuck with WJ. I think we’ll be good with 11:35 **fingers crossed**

I don’t think we will another cruise that ends in PC , it sucks getting to the airport

Unless I imagined it, we were looking at Air Canada for a New Year's Cruise and they had a 2:15 or 2:30 pm return flight from MCO, which was perfect. Then we went to book and it had moved to 11:30am, with the other non-stop home at 4pm.

Based on simple math and what I've seen around here we figured 11:30 was too tight and booked 4pm. Maybe we'll get lucky, get to the airport and get on the earlier flight but I wouldn't bet on it. (We were able to do just that in Tampa last year but of course the airport is closer there.)

So, yeah - the cruise that made sense to us was out of Port Canaveral and so we booked it but the challenges getting to/from MCO are making it quite the hassle (which I will mitiigate slightly by flying in an additional day earlier and going to Kennedy, which I've always wanted to do.)

Wife decided to skip the space centre , it is really not our thing

I grew up with the space program and was very disappointed with the KSC tour. I thought the one in Huntsville is much better.
