Hi.  Does anyone know how the casino perks work?  If I get 2500 points on my August cruise, will I be able to get free drinks in the casino on my October cruise or do I need to wait until next year?

you can start receiving drink as soon as your get 2500 points you will have to go to the casino host and they will put a sticker on your card saying you are prime.

Go to the host when ya get 1k points...won't get ya prime, but will get ya free drinks on that cruise.  Once prime, free every cruise.

Faster you play the faster to prime.  Lots can do it the first day.  In that case you will probably get the "bottle of doom" wine in your room by the next night as well.

If you hit prime in your August cruise you will receive free drinks straight away ( after seeing the host for your sticker), after that any cruise you do your card will have PRIME on it and you get free drinks in the casino when in there. You will also be offered a free cruise from the following April to take within the next 12 months (with 2500 points it will be an inside stateroom for 7 nights). You may also be given an instant cruise certificate for other cruises ( the more points you get the better the cruise/length). Hope this helps.

$12,500 in slot play or $25,000 in video poker to get to the Prime level

$125,000 in slot play or $500,000 in video poker to get to the Signature level

$500,000 in slot play or $1M in video poker to get to the Masters level

For sure.  Some have visuals or sounds that are, by design, enticing.  
 

Frankenstein “It’s Alive, It’s Alive” still rings in my ears.  
 

Generally speaking a lot of human engineering has been put into slots to make them engaging.  Subwoofers, vibration, visuals are all meant to keep you in your seat as long as possible.  Yet they still often replicate traditional sounds from slots of old.

I had not heard of that before.  Is that a written policy someplace or just a known undisclosed perq?

Good question...guess I assumed was just part of the casino perks.  Worked for us several years ago, but then was not a factor after that, as we achieved prime, got drinks for the following year, and then made prime again and kept the process going for the following year(s).

 

Hope I didn't give false hope to anyone....made me think back a bit there....guess once ya make/continue to make prime, it's a non-issue.  Again, hope I didn't misspeak to OP's original question.

On the Symphony recently, you only needed to tap your sea pass to log into the machine (vs Vision/Enchantment/Grandeur where I've had to insert my card in the machine and leave it there). This appears to have made it more convenient for people to earn points on their spouses' accounts, perhaps so both would qualify for free drinks. I mean, I'm just guessing that was going on, based on seeing a number of gentleman playing on machines where the screen said, e.g., "Welcome, Linda."

We actually find it more difficult to earn points for each other on the "tap" machines. If you change machines you have to be sitting near each other tap into each machine.

 

On the older ships (where you insert the card) you can go to the host desk and ask them to create a second card for your account that your spouse can use.

When you posted it, I did a quick google search and saw other posts on other web sites where this 1000 points occurred, but didn't see anything specifically from RCI or a pdf.  We focused on my wife getting to prime last cruise.  I think I have 8 points and it I only need to get to 992 points to get drinks on the next cruise that would be easier than trying to get 2,492 points.  I understand that it would be for that one cruise only.  The next cruise I would need to get either another 1,000 points or all the way to prime..

At $5 per point assuming you hit a run of back luck your potential outlay cost for “free” drinks is $4960… isn’t it cheaper to PAYG?!? 🤷‍♀️

 

I also don’t understand potentially laying down $12500 to get a “free” cruise?!  Where do you draw the line and stop 🎰?

Good question, and I think the answers can vary widely.

 

I usually know before going into a casino (land or sea) how much I am "OK" with potentially losing on that trip, and just have to stay disciplined enough to stop before I get to that point.

 

I'm not a high roller by any means, and for slots I usually stick to the lower end to the middle of the bet options. Some of the older slots still have a max bet of $1.50, so even if the machine is cold it takes a while to lose too much unless your limit is really low.

 

My last cruise was 15 days. I gambled on probably 10 of those days and still didn't reach Prime status, but got close enough (about 1,700 points) that I can reach it on our next cruise in September with about 800 more. After all that I ended up $300 ahead. I'll never get rich that way, but I'll take that every time.

Works great when only one person is the gambler.  Switch cards or get an extra key for the non-gambler.  The problem is when the person hits a hand pay (a big enough win where US tax implications come into play) using the other person's card since the name on the card is the one who has to collect as they have to put that name on the tax form.
