In New York City on 11/5 (Day of National Election). Not really interested in doing an excursion but would like to at least get off the ship and eat a late lunch or early dinner. Any restaurant suggestions in that area??

What interests you food wise? What’s your budget?

There are hundreds of restaurants within probably 10 blocks of the cruise terminal. From great pizza, Indian food, traditional Mexican, Chinese and Korean, to some of the highest end and high priced Michelin rated restaurants in the country. Give a little more information and you’ll get some good recommendations.

I don't have a restaurant recommendation, but I used to live in the neightborhood. When you get off the ship, walk towards 9th avenue, then walk along 9th avenue between 52 Street and 42nd street. It's a commercial area with tons of restaurants. And it mostly serves new yorkers and area visitors. That said, you need to stay on 9th Avenue to avoid the worst of the tourist crowds. Once you get to 8th and 7th avenues, it gets worse. It'll still be busy. Also, while you're in the area, you can check out the intrepid aircraft carrier museum ship. It's on the waterfront at 46th street a few blocks down from where your cruiseship will be docked. It's the easiest site to visit from the port, and pretty cool if you're into warships, airplanes, or want to see a space shuttle. Have fun!

The other easy thing to do is to rent a bike via citibike and bike along the river. Cruise ships dock on the main bike path that goes around most of Manhattan. There's a narrow park, and a bike pathway. If you bike south, you'll pass little island, which is a great hit, and you'll get to the financial district (twin towers area) in under an hour. Longer if you stop to enjoy, faster if you get an ebike.

If you're looking for an NYC excursion that doesn't require a lot of travel, both the Intrepid and Citibike are things you can do by walking 5-10 min from the cruise ship.

If you want to get on the water, and see the Skyline, Manhattan Kayak (yes people kayak in the river) and Circle Line (boat tours) are also a 5-10 minute walk from the cruise ship. Those might be less attractive since you'll see a bit of the skyline during sail in and sailaway.
