dumb question what makes you a VIP?

We have been on 5 going on 6 Carnival cruises and was wondering how some of the people are considered VIPS Do they book expensive rooms or does it go by the amount of money spent? Just curious.:rolleyes:

Im a member of a new thing called The Carnival Vacation Club, that makes me a VIP. Also if you book a Cat 11 or 12 suite, you become a VIP, They call it Skippers Club, and lastly but new if you sailed with Carnival 10 times you become a Platinum Card holder and that quailfies you for VIP status with the Skippers Club.
