artt Posted April 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2006 We are sailing on the Glory in August. We have boy and girl 8 year olds and a 13 year old and 4 adults. Can anyone give suggestions on shore excursions in Belize and Costa Maya? Should we book through Carnival being the peak of hurricane season?! We don't mind splitting up to do different things. We looked at cave tubing but have decided against that. Other suggestions??!!
jenjens1023 Posted April 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2006 Welcome to Cruise Critic. You are going to learn a lot here. I would suggest you go to the message boards for the ports you will visit. There are many threads there about different excursions. Having said that, we booked our tours independently (I'm a tight-wad), but it wasn't hurricane season. Reputable tours will not charge you if the ship doesn't make it to port. Tour operators know if a ship doesn't come in. We missed Grand Cayman because of rough seas and were not charged for our missed tour. But to be safe, ask about their cancellation policy. We went cave tubing in Belize (with Coral Breezes) and had a good time. Why did you decide against it? In Costa Maya we went to the ruins. My 13 yo was bored, although we adults thought it was an interesting tour (we booked that one through the ship because of weather-related port changes). I would also recommend you check out the "first time cruisers" discussion board. I got many, many, many helpful hints there.

When we went to Belize we did the zoo tour through Carnival...the kids had a blast seeing animals that they would not get to see in the us. My kids at that time were 9 and 3. I hope this helps.
