Sea Princess

I am exploring which cruise to do next April and have found one on the Sea princess. We have cruised before a few times with RCCL (Brilliance and Empress) and I wondered how the sea princess compares. I am slightly anxious as some of the reviews keep on about the ship being for the british market - and I don't know what this means! One man said because the Sea Princess was for the brits - he couldn't find any healthy food and all the food was swimming in grease - I am british and can honestly say that I nor anyone I know eats greasy food. We are much more into organic, fresh produce. In actual fact, one of our criticisms of the Empress was the lack of fresh vegetables with main courses. We tjhought that was because it was tailored to the American market!!!

Such cultural ignorance eh!

Anyway, it would be great to hear people's views - on the Sea princess and what the image of the British market is too!!

Look forward to hearing from you all!

From what I've read, the majority of people have a wonderful time on the Sea Princess.

We'll be sailing on this ship in July on our Scandinavia cruise out of Southampton and I'll report back on how it was.

Yes, this ship is heavily marketed to British clientele, but I can't see that being a problem whatsoever.

We sailed on the Sea Princess last November, and have it booked again for this December. I can't imagine why someone would say the food was 'swimming in grease' as we saw nothing like that.

The reason the Sea is referred to as geared more towards British passengers I think is because it is highly advertised in the UK RT from Barbados. That usually means about 50-75% of the passengers onboard are British. Not a thing wrong with that as we had the best time on our sailing with the ratio. So much fun to meet and tour with those from another country.

Personally, we felt that the ship was the best of the best on Princess. Maybe British passengers are more demanding then those in the U.S. as everything was close to perfection. The food was the best we have ever had on a Princess ship, the entertainment was geared more towards the British style, nothing at all wrong with that. The service was top notch and we wanted for nothing for two weeks.

After all of these Princess cruises we have taken, to make the statement that the Sea was our favorite is really saying something. Why else would we book it again so soon if it wasn't the best of the best?

If you are interested in this cruise, go for it. And I hope you have as great of time as we did on the Sea.

I agree with Toto on her review of the Sea Princess. I have been back 2 times now for cruises and find the ship to be wonderful. I really like the Sun-class ships as they are not too small or too big... just right in size to find your way around and in the amount of people you bump into. As for the food, it was never "swimming in grease." We love our fresh veggies too and it was no problem to order a side of steam vegetables (no butter or oil) with dinner.

Book your cruise on the Sea Princess, I am sure you won't be disappointed. :)

I have attempted to answer 3 times and each time I get the dreaded white screen, so each answer is shorter than the previous attempt.

Just got off of her last week...booked her again for next year. Best food we have ever had.....go for it

Book your cruise. You will love it. We were on her on the Feb. 25 sailing for 14 days & had a fabulous time. It was our 13th cruise & our 3rd with Princess. Yes, there were a lot of Brits on board but I don't see where that would be a problem. We met up with a wonderful group of people through the cruise critic rollcall & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had such a great time together that 12 couples so far are planning on booking a reunion cruise for 2008.

We were on the Sea Princess back in June '01 also, on a cruise to Alaska prior to it going over to P&O, & had great time then. They did change the casino, making it smaller & having a game area where slots & tables used to be, but I wouldn't let that affect whether I took that cruise. I didn't find the food soaking in grease either. Some of the offerings in the Horizon court were not what we liked but also had plenty of other choices. This cruise was one of our favorites.

As a Brit. of yesteryear I liked Sea Princess, although my only problem was, some persons were a little difficult to understand, most came from the Manchester area it seemed. We met one charming negro couple from Blighty, very easy to understand, their accents seemed very familiar though, Barbabos! Food? No grease that I could see, however I did enjoy my baked beans at breakfast. john

The Sea Princess is a fine ship, having been on a few other Princess ships she is a liitle different. I think you could call it the British effect.

Football on the big screen.

Casino a bit quite.

Party a little bit dull compared to others but still OK

Folk standing around with beer in hand.

Americans not getting the jokes at the evening shows.

All that aside, you will have a good time, I will go back onboard, but I prefer the big ships. Found that 2 or 3 sea days is OK 7 in bad weather well thats a little bit to much, mind you even on a big ship you have seen most places on it after seven days at sea.

PS As to the food its very like any other Princess ship, did not notice that they did a British menu, so plenty of it, good choice well cooked, found that you do need to ask for things sometimes.

yours Shogun

We were on the same cruise with Shelby Cruisers and had the time of our lives. Hello to Larry and Donna!! We are American and were definately in the minority but loved it. We met some wonderful Brits and Canadians while onboard and charish the memories we will have of all of them. What a beautiful ship and the ports of call were the best. As far as the food, we thought it was some of the best we have ever had onborad any ship ever. I don't recall any grease in any meal and we felt like we had a great variety the entire 14 days. They had the best steaks we have ever had on a cruise and we were served lobster tail 2 nights, and crablegs one night. Yum!

Be prepared to have a great time on this ship!

Hi Terry & Beth. Miss you both & the rest of our teriffic cc group. This is a wonderful ship & ports are great. I can't imagine not liking this ship. Try the Sterling Steakhouse the second night they have outdoor dining under the stars. It was awesome with the 3 Tenors performing while the sun was setting. Weather was perfect & the steaks fantastic.

We were on the Sea Princess in Dec and had a wonderful time. I remember there being some food geared to English tastes on the buffet and it was fun trying some of it....broadens the mind to vary things a bit. Thoroughly enjoyed our UK tablemates--when we told them this they replied they had a good time too because we were the only Americans they could understand! We enjoyed the ship very much, great crew, food was delicious, entertainment was varied and enjoyable. You will have a wonderful time on the Sea.

If you have cable TV you can train your ear. Just tune into BBCAmerica: Coupling, As Time Goes By, Are You being Served, The Office, Blackadder. After a while, you'll be snickering right along!:) :)
