JayCruise Posted June 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2004 Hi all! Has anyone used the cruise line's transfers from the ship to the airport in Venice? We will be on the Star Princess. If so, how does it work? How early can you disembark? ( we have a very early flight) And anything else you can recommend or suggest would be apprecitated. Thanks in advance!:)
wwinfl91 Posted June 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2004 We used a transfer to get our luggage to the Held Luggage office on the day our cruise ended. We were going to stay an extra 3 days in Venice but had decided against trying to haul our bigger pieces of luggage to the hotel. We left our luggage out the night before and took the bus to the airport. We found our luggage laid out in a covered area in front of the terminal. If you have an early flight they handled that by starting transfers to the airport at 5 AM or so in the morning. We didn't go until around 9:30 since we weren't in any hurry. The airport, assuming you are flying out of the Marco Polo, is about a 20 minute drive from the port. It is a new modern facility and is pretty easy to find your way around. Have a great next cruise. susca Posted June 28, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 28, 2004 We will be taking a flight out the same day (3 pm) that we disembark from the ship. Would the transfer system work the same way? We want to do a little Venice sightseeing before going to the airport and don't want to lug luggage all day.
wwinfl91 Posted June 28, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2004 What you might try to do is sign up to get to the airport as early as you can and then store your luggage. Then take the waterbus back to Venice but since you would still want to get back to the airport a couple of hours before your flight and the waterbus only goes every hour or so that would mean catching the waterbus back at Noon or so. I'm not sure you would gain more than 2 or 3 hours sightseeing in Venice by doing this when you add the transport times. Have a great next cruise. susca Posted June 28, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 28, 2004 :) Thanks for the info. I thought it might be difficult to get much sightseeing done on that day, but it might be worthwhile to go in & have a farewell early lunch.
