We sailed 4/8/08 and had a wonderful time. The crew was very friendly and I loved eating breakfast at the Windjammer and looking out at the ocean. Hope that helps :) If you really don't want to go, I'll be happy to go on your cruise in your place ;)

We sailed on Grandeur last month and loved every minute of it. The ship is in really good condition and the crew members we met were wonderful. Our family, ranging from age 12 to 81, enjoyed the food, activities and the ship itself. Maybe the things you've been reading about are fluky, one-time type occurrences. We have only good memories of our five-night Western trip. I'll be glad to answer any specific questions for you if I can. Have a wonderful vacation!

We were on the Grandeur over Christmas 2005, the ship was great, in good condition, if you don't count the big dent on the starboard side.

The ship was decorated for Christmas, and they even shut off one of the engines, so Santa could use the funnel to enter the ship!!!

Food and service was as you would expect from RCL, staff very friendly.

I know this was 5 months ago, but I hope it helps

We sailed the Grandeur last July on a 9-day cruise and thought it was a wonderful and beautiful ship, wonderful activities and shows, great crew and had a fantastic time. Our inside stateroom was small, but clean, no problems. I thought the food was fine, but then again, I don't cruise to eat, so as long as it is decent, and it was fine, I thought.

I was sorry to hear about the other poster's experience, but for me, the Grandeur was the best vacation I have ever had.

Individuals have their own experiences, but overall, from what I have read here, most people would sail the Grandeur again, I know I would in a heartbeat. Have a great trip!!!!

Next up: Empress in the Fall.

We sailed Grandeur 9/05 and enjoyed the experience so much we sailed her again 4/06. I thought the food was great, the staff was incredible, and the ship was in good shape - clean and well cared for. Our only previous cruising experience had been on Disney and we felt Grandeur was every bit as nice (without the 1000 little children :D ) I wouldn't hesitate to book Grandeur again. Go and enjoy yourself. Don't let negative reviews ruin your vacation or the anticipation. Happy cruising!!!!

Although we sailed her a while back Holiday Cruise 2004 (Christmas & New Years) my guess is that it is still a top notch ship. We had no complaints. Excellent service in the dining room. If you want great service ask for Reynaldo. He goes well beyond what you would expect.

Thank you to everyone who has posted. I feel a bit better. I was wondering specifically about the food and entertainment. We do not have kids going with us, so teen/kid activities are not of interest to us. Food, entertainment and adult activities are what we care most about. Cleanliness of course, is also important.

Thanks again!!!:o

Thanks again!!!:o

Feel ALOT better. No kids with us either. I can't imagine that you will be disappointed! Entertainment was tops. At one show, they had us dancing in the aisles.

We were on Grandeur in December and loved it! The best most personable crew I have ever met. Our room steward and waiter always called us by name and told jokes and were so friendly. Food and activities were typical RCCL. You are going to have a wonderful time!!!! Enjoy!!!!:D

Thanks for the positive replies everyone!!! I just booked the Grandeur for next July (to NE/Canada) and was getting a little nervous about my choice because of some of the negative postings I've seen recently. I feel so much better now!!! :)

I take CC postings with a grain of salt and I know I'm pretty laid back about what makes me happy on a cruise but I also was getting a little nervous about our first RCCL booking on the Grandeur!

My overall impression was that the ship was in OK condition for a 10 yr. old ship except for the smell, the food is bad, the beds uncomfortable, and there is a shake in the aft BUT the dining room service is wonderful. Consistently, people complimented the dining room service! To top it off, my cabin (JS #7152 aft) is going to be noisy and is almost directly over the band in the lounge below. My friends OS #8000 was blasted in a post recently as well and I didn't have the heart to tell her or her mother (who is so looking forward to this cruise after beating a long illness).

I decided not to say anything to any of them and let them form their own opinion. Please keep the good news coming about this ship!

The Grandeur is a lovely ship. We sailed on her 3 times last year and are booked for Nov this year. Don't worry about what others say, everyone has different opinions and expectations. Just go and see for yourself. I really think you will be glad you cruised on the Grandeur.

I am going to be the one to disagree and state I thought this was the worst ship and food of any cruise I was ever on.

I food was mediocore, barely warm, weird sauces, bug in my dessert, buffet dishes often empty and not refilled, no optional dining or pizza or hamburger grill. Shorts and flip flops allowed in dining room. Bar service very slow in casino and by pool.

Spouts to coffee dispenser dirty, knob in stateroom dirty, grout on my tile in shower not clean etc.

The pool attendant taking peoples items to the purser desk while people attended muster or was grabbing something to eat. This is not pool chair saving.

I have to say that the bartenders in Shooners were the highlight of service. They were fun and freindly and there was a great piano player. Also the Head Waiter worker very hard and helped serve our table every night.

We went over the Easter weekend so this could of had some bearing on the overall cruise. I know that I am fairly on the mark because one of the people we went with is a HUGE RCL fan and was almost never going to go back on RCL and agreed finally that Princess was better.

But we are giving RCL another try afterall and will be on the Rhapsody July 2nd.

Well, in contrast to the above post on Grandeur (no ill feelings meant to the poster), but Grandeur was our first cruise two years ago and we had an absolutely wonderful 7 day cruise on that ship.

Only one disappointment:

Leaving for home!

We were on board the first week of April for a 5 night Costa Maya and Cozumel out of Tampa and had a good time. We found pizza and burgers at the atrium pool and they were typical burgers and pizza. Good at the time as they hit the spot. We were in OS 8000 and liked the cabin a lot but it looked as though the soft goods throughout the ship were starting to wear. I thought the food was good and the service everywhere was impeccable! There were a couple of places on deck 4 where we could smell the septic system and heard that a couple of rooms had issues there but we did not. The OS is under Windjammer so we could hear the tables and chairs being slid along the floor during setup in the morning but it wasn't bad. The photagraphers were *very* talented and we wound up buying more than we intended they were so good! The lifestyle photos were amazing! By the way, we had friends on deck 4 that had *no* problems with any smells or septic issues.

We were with Cheryl (greatdanemom) on the Grandeur in September 05 and loved it. We loved everything about the Grandeur. It is an easy ship to learn and find your way around. It was a 9 day sailing and we booked it again for this September as the price can not be beat and the itinerary we found interesting. As for the entertainment last year on board, it was good. For our headliner it was Lenny Welch, who recorded "Since I fell for you" and he was fantastic. There was so many different things on board going on such as bingos, karakoes, art auctions, 70's Disco Inferno, Country dancing, Tropical Dance Party, Love and marraige shows, Swing dancing, Rock and Roll dance party, Shuffleboard Tournies, Trivias, Ice carvings, Chefs Demo's, Parades, Millionaire Game show, Wine tastings, Comedians, Ms Biceps contest, Casino tournies, Quest and the Production shows. The Gala Buffet was not to be missed, it was great. Our Meet and Mingle party was great at the Viking Crown Lounge with refreshments and prizes. We have been on large ships, such as the Voyager, but we prefer going back to the Grandeur because it is simple and more personalized.

I'll be sailing on the Granduer on 6/4/06 to Bermuda. I too was a tad bit concerned after reading some of the posts about the Granduer. I have sailed RCCL on three previous cruises and have always had a great time. What's not to love about cruising? I'm sure that once we board and weigh anchor any concerns we may have had will soon be forgotten. I'm sure that upon my return I'll be on this thread telling you what a great time I had and what a fantastic ship the Granduer is. I will keep you posted.

We sailed on the Grandeur just about a year ago and will be sailing again on her next week.

Overall the ship is in good condition and we had a great cruise.

The ship is well laid out and easy to navigate.

Since neither my DW or myself are gourmet’s we had no problem with the food and the service is well above average.

The shows were OK and about what you see on any of the cruise lines.

We stayed in an aft JS and while there was some occasional noise it was nothing to be concerned over.

Have a gret time and remember, your on vacation;-)

We were on the May, 6th - 12th from San Juan to Baltimore, we found the Grandeur to be clean, in good condition, some of the friendliest crew in the 5 cruise's we have been on. The dining room staff in particular: Tony, (head waiter) Sean (waiter) Viviana (asst waiter) were 3 of the best we have ever had on a cruise. The cruise staff was very good, one down note, was not overly impressed with the production numbers by the RCI singers & dancers, but this did not in any way diminish the cruise experience overall, We realize that everyone has a different experience, but sometimes we read cruise critic and wonder how some of the posters had such bad experiences.

We just sailed 4/13/06 - 4/17/06 and had a blast. The crew and the service was the best! The dining room food was wonderful. The Pizza / hotdogs / hamburger stations left a lot to be desired (ok, they were downright nasty), but we just didn't eat there. The Windjammer was ok. Not great, but not horrible. The ship is small, so you really get a chance to "know" people. I cannot say enough about the crew and the service. We never, ever had a problem getting a drink. If I was walking down the hall and my room steward was at the other end of the hall but noticed I was coming, he'd immediately walk towards my room and open the door for me. Our dining staff knew my daughter was going to eat chicken fingers every night. As soon as we sat down, her meal was placed in front of her. The crew - from the bar staff to the pool staff - all remembered our names and greated us as if we were their friend. It was a great, great ship and I will definitely sail her again!
