What is there to do in Lauderdale?

Haven't been able to find that much to answer this question. We dis-embark on the 25th, and our flight out of Lauderdale doesn't leave until 4 in the afternoon. What is there to do there to pass a little time? Is there a beach close by? Also, where could we leave our luggage? Thanks for any help:)

They had a great art museum - Museum of Art, Ft Laduerdale (MoAFL). We saw the King Tut exhibit before boarding the Liberty in January. King Tut has left but they are getting a "Treasures of the Holy Land" exhibit that is supposed to be very interesting.

...meant to say that the port is very near the airport. Maybe you could head over to the airport, check in for your flight and leaving your bags there while you head out to do whatever you decide to do.

You could also head to Bayside Market which is about 5 minutes from the Port of Miami. It is a huge Market Place that has restaurants and shopping, a great place to spend time. Not sure what you would do with your luggage but they may have lockers. I have been to Bayside many times, it is right on the water and very nice!! From there to Ft. laud airport it is a 45 min. ride.

I don't believe you can check in at the airport until 3 hours before your flight these days.

You can book the Everglades tour with Princess.

here is a link to the excursions Princess offers after the cruise. I believe if you book an excursion with Princess they take care of your luggage.

Not sure where i read this , i think it was the disney boards. They had a pickup service from the dock to the airport including a trip to cape canaveral But only for afternoon flights. that may suit. If you are driving yourself even better.

let us know what you decide to do?

When we dis-embark, we have the transfers through carnival to get to Lauderdale, so whatever time we get there is what we have to squeeze in our last bit of vacation time before the flight. DH said something about going to a beach for a bit, I like that idea, but would like to see something interesting somewhere. Thanks for the replies and ideas, keep them coming:) Hollywood Beach is sounding good if it is close to the Lauderdale Airport.

It sounds like you plan on renting a car after the cruise. Is that correct? If not how do you plan to get around until your flight?

I would cancel the transfers from the cruiseline and rent a car. The airport is no farther then 10 minutes away. If taking the cruiselines bus you'll have to wait until it fills up just to drive you 10 minutes. You can rent a car for about $35.00. Grab a cab after the cruise to the airport for about $12. Probably much cheaper and will give you more time before your flight.

It's easy to pack a lot into a day if you have a vehicle. Catch the history, museums, and shops and bistros in Fort Lauderdale's downtown area and along Las Olas Boulevard. Then if you feel like hitting the beach, just take a 10-minute drive east to the intersection of Las Olas and A1A and you're there. Many neighboring communities, with attractions of their own, are just north or south of Fort Lauderdale.

Tour downtown Fort Lauderdale, especially Las Olas Boulevard between Southeast 3rd and Southeast 15th avenues. After lunch at a sidewalk café, head for the nearby Arts and Science District and the downtown Riverwalk; enjoy it at a leisurely pace.

Spend some time at the Fort Lauderdale Beachfront, shopping or having a cooling libation at an oceanfront lounge if heat drives you off the sand

Tour the waterways either on a rented boat from one of the marinas along Route A1A, or via a sightseeing vessel or water taxi. The latter can be boarded at points along the Intracoastal Waterway. Reachable by water taxi are attractions such as Beach Place, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Galleria Mall, Las Olas Boulevard shops, Las Olas Riverfront, and the Museum of Art and Museum of Discovery and Science/Blockbuster IMAX Theater; restaurants such as 15th Street Fisheries, Grill Room at Riverside Hotel, Shula's on the Beach, and dozens of others; and hotels such as the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six, Radisson Bahia Mar, Riverside Hotel, and Pillars Waterfront. ;)
