Miami Stop on the Grandeur

We are on the 8/18 9 Day Western on the Grandeur and it has a Miami Stop! Whats to do in Miami with kids or even without (should they choose to stay in AO)

 

I know the everglades and south beach (not sure if I'm a south beach kind of person...) What else interesting is there to do? Good shopping anywhere? Local Color? Tourist attractions? We dont generally go on Ship sponsored Tours because we have always found it more fun to just go on our own or book through a different touring company. We are pretty open minded so any and all suggestions are welcome!

You might want to visit Vizcaya, the mansion built by industrialist James Deering. http://www.vizcayamuseum.com/ You might also consider the Miami zoo. It was pretty good when I was there a few years ago but it might be a little too hot for a zoo day in August.

Was it me who responded? My other suggestion would be to hit the library and take out a couple of Miami guidebooks. Then come back and ask for comments on the activities that sound desirable to you.

I'm with superjerryw; that mansion is very interesting! We say that and then drove out to the everglades, but it was too hot to take the air boat ride.
