tr cruiser Posted July 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2004 There was a topic in the old Special Expeditions forum in which I discussed an upcoming South Pacific eclipse cruise on Society Expeditions' World Discoverer. Look here for information on that trip. Unfortunately, Society Expeditions, the company sponsoring the cruise ceased operations last week. Although the ship was fully booked, there is currently no business available to take over the operation. Instead, passengers who are still interested in seeing the eclipse are being offered the option of sailing on World Discovery Cruise's MV Discovery, a larger, but less luxurious adventure cruise vessel. The itinerary is shorter [18, as opposed to 26 days], but visits many of the same ports - Tahiti, Moorea, Pitcairn Island, Easter Island and Peru. It will, of course, include observation of the April 8, 2005 solar eclipse which only appears as total from a small patch of ocean in mid-Pacific. See the travel agency's web page here for full details. As a veteran of six other eclipse cruises I'd be happy to discuss any aspect of the voyage as well as to hear from any fellow travellers. Clear skies!
