lauren0309 Posted July 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2006 I've noticed most companies wanted a credit card number to reserve your car. Are you charged right away or is it just to hold th reservation?
guinness67 Posted July 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2006 When we used American in Aruba a few weeks ago, the credit card was used for holding the reservation. As a matter of fact, we paid with cash at the end of the day and received the credit card slip (carbon kind) back.

pholter Posted July 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Lauren- It's never too early to reserve a jeep- they are the hottest rental and it depends on how many ships are in port on the same day. We also gave our credit card to reserve and paid cash when we rented that day. My credit card was never charged. www.arubaroyal.com is who we used and were very pleased with the service and vehicle. guinness67 Posted July 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2006 About how far in advance should I reserve a jeep? My cruise isnt until January. I booked ours about 4 weeks out and got what I wanted - basic 4x4, air, and automatic - for $75 per day. You should keep in mind that you will be in Aruba during their "high" season when both price and demand goes up. If booking well in advance, my only concern would be the cancellation policy. I don't remember what American's was, however I E-mailed them several times with questions and they were always fairly prompt with replies. The website for American is www.american-car-rental.com. It looks like pholter, the previous poster, also used a local outfit. When deciding who to rent through, I found that more people were satisfied with the local companies than the chains we have in the US (Avis, Hertz, Budget...). The chains didn't seem to have a large selection of Jeeps, although they did have various small 4x4s.

Lauren, It looks like you are lucky. As of now, cruisecal.com shows that the AOS is the only ship in Aruba on your port day.
