Hi - I was told that the cover charge for Johnny Rockets was a 1 time fee -- pay the 1st time and then the rest of the visits during that cruise are "free". Any truth to this? Thanks!

No truth what so ever. You pay the $3.95 cover charge each time for your food (burger, fries, onion rings). Drinks such as sodas and shakes are an extra fee as well.

And if you are a Crown and Anchor member, depending on what level, you will receive at least one coupon per person for a free meal, drinks are extra, but no truth to the $3.95 one time fee

Sodas cost whatever they cost elsewhere on the ship and shakes are around $3.50 or $3.95 each. The cover charge does include whatever you eat during each visit-say if you wanted more than one burger that would be included in the cover charge for that visit.

No, not for sodas, but soda cards do not cover shakes, which, by the way,:) are delicious.

are you telling me it would cost my family of 4 --16 dollars to sit in the restaurant and have a burger??? after i just paid a couple of grand to board the ship lets see --$40 to eat in portofinos $75 to park at bayonne $200 in tips according to the tip calculator $40 bucks so my kids can have a couple of sprites--i havnt even had a drink yet let alone visit the casino---where o where is the Value i hear about on cruises??

You can get free burgers and dogs in the Windjammer if you do not want to pay for JR's. And yes cruising is still one of the best values out there today.

The little things can add up, but cruising is still one of the best deals around.

Look at what you do get, not at what you don't get. Afterall you are probably staying in a room that is oceanview, with twice daily maid service, all of your meals are included along with free room service 24 hours a day. Free ice cream cones, cookies, pizza, sandwiches in the promonade. Transportation to various islands. Tons of entertainment. So, you may have to pay if you want "specialty" dining. But you don't have to go to these restaurants to enjoy your cruise. Burgers and fries are available in the Windjammer, free of charge.

 

The parking in Bayonne is pretty standard. You have to park at airports, why should cruise terminals be any different? The tips are standard on RCCL, and you probably knew about them before, so they shouldn't come as a surprise.

Yes that is pretty much it.........but experienced cruisers all know this up front and in advance and plan those costs as part of their vacation experience........but even if you add all those extra's you mention, cruising is still a great value which in part explains the tremendous growth the industry has had in the last few years.

Nobody at RCCL is telling you that you have to eat at JRs, Portofinos, or Baskin Robbins. You dont have to buy soda because there is free ice tea and lemonade available to you almost all the time.

What you spend on board is really up to you and RCCL is just giving you other options. As a family of 4, we have never spent more than $150 on board and that includes drinks and pictures. Parking and tips go with the cruise so I dont consider them to be an extra expense, I factor them into the total.

No matter who many times I try to find a different vacation, a cruise is still the best deal around for food, entertainment, transportation, and service.

We cross posted...........I tend to agree with you.......but it is one of those things you HAVE to try once just to satisfy your curiosity.....then you can say......Been there, done that:D

I'm frequently suspicious when a poster uses his very first post to rant about a topic that has been hashed and rehashed ad nauseam, and seems more intent on stirring up cruiseline fans and critics than obtaining or contributing any "value". Jerry, I think anyone would, but unfortunately some of them prefer to be creative rather than admit they don't know the answer to your question. A local insurance company recently stated that their policy in such a situation is to tell the customer: "I don't know but I will find out and get back to you with the answer". If only every company would adopt a similar policy.

Frankly, since I could go to Johnny Rockets whenever I want (several local ones) I have never gone to one on board ship. Their burgers are very good, though, and that cover charge is minimal.

The $7.90 is not gonna kill me for my self and my husband It is as much a pack of cigaretts here You can barely have a soda at disney for 3 bucks lol.

I really believe they may have been instructed that "I don't know" is not an acceptable answer. I agree honesty goes a long way with most people. I have had 4 of my last 5 cruises red flagged for one reason or another. You should have heard the "list" of reasons my ta was given for the red flag status.......all of which ended up being incorrect:) I really think corporate does not allow an "I don't know answer"......
