Hello,

We are cruising out of San Juan in March (spring break week - uggh!) and I am starting to look for hotel. We arrive after 6:00pm on Friday and plan

to board by Noon so just looking for a comfortable bed with a place to eat nearby for one nite. We don't need anything fancy.

I have never used Priceline or any of the hotel websites - any advice on what to look for and how to win a good bid?

thanks

Cindi

I would check rates at the airport Embassy Suites. You can usually get good rates for the Sheraton Convention Center and the bidding info for them is listed in a few previous posts. You might also check Hotels dot Com for a boutique hotel in Old San Juan. I look for 3 star and up on all the sites. Do some research on the Priceline Hot wire site for San Juan there is great bidding info. I'm at work so can't pull up the site to look at the bidding areas but airport, Old San Juan and Condado are all convenient. We prefer staying in Old San Juan and spending the morning exploring the area and boarding early afternoon when the rooms are open. If you don't get better help then I can look later to give you better info. We go in February but booked our hotel quite a while ago so I am struggling to remember. sorry

Thanks for the advice. I ended up on booking dot com and found the Coral Princess Hotel for a great base rate of $135 ($168 with taxes and fees) and they offer free cancellation up to 2 days before our trip (which was the same on PL) so now that I have that secured I may watch for something else. The reviews on this one seem to be good enough for what I wanted - a bed and a pillow for one nite :D

Doing research I found out March is a more expensive month for hotels.

Got a hotel...Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Center Hotel and Casino for $151 a night (3 nights) . This hotel gets excellent reviews for location and the hotel itself. Going to explore Old San Juan more this time around.

Priceline

Bid 4*

PR - San Juan (Old San Juan - Condado)

bid $145

rejected

added PR - San Juan (Ocean Park - Isla Verde)

bid $151

won

Great news. Gives me hope. Have bid several times for March starting at $145, and not getting anything. Will try 151 next week.

Wonder if there is anything within walking distance of the Sheraton Convention Center. The last time in San Juan it was just being built.

For anyone that doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg in Old San Juan pre or post cruise, I just got a great deal on Hotwire.

Old San Juan (we ended up with SJ Suites, which I know isn't fancy, but it's a place to lay our head for a night)

Hotwire price was $92

I got a $25 coupon for downloading the Hotwire app

Final price with taxes is $85.96!!!

(hotel website price was around $136 I think)

For those interested, i just got the Condado Plaza Hilton by bidding for a 4* in Old San Juan/Condado on Priceline. The price was $120, with fees and taxes it came to $139.50 per night. The lowest rate I could find online direct book was $170 + taxes and fees with a senior discount. Several folks had gotten the La Concha I believe recently for more than this but still good rate. I think we will be happy for two days at this rate. Know this location is a bit out of the way, but will be doable I am sure. Still need to find hotel for post cruise 4/18 to 4/21. Will post what I come up with.

La concha had a cyber Monday deal. Book 3 nights at the rate of $110 per night. We booked 3 nights in June 2015.

AmandaKaye79 That's a great rate..when I looked they only had December dates for the Cyber deal, but it might have come and gone before or after I checked. did that include their taxes and resort fee? working these hotel deals can become a full time job!! I hope you have a great trip..

seems like there are deals out there...I think it varies a lot by month as well. I understand that March is one of the toughest months because of Holy week and spring break. We are going in April, so I am satisfied with the rate we got, the tax and resort fees and "other fees" thing is a killer on some of these hotels. I saw one that came to over 30% after they gave you a "special" rate.

The total for 3 nights was $432.23. That included taxes and resort fees. All you had to do was book directly from their website anytime from Black Friday to cyber Monday. There were no restrictions on the dates. The only restriction was that you had to book 3 nights.
