Are there ATM's onboard Princess Ships?

Hi all, I posted a thread yesterday regarding cash machine on the Sea, but with no response. Maybe it would be easier if I asked if there was ATMs on any of the ships in the fleet.

Would like to know because I dont own a credit card and would have to pay for things in cash, but would like to have an idea (if there arent ATM's on board) how much to take to cover everything.

Thanks

Steve

Most ships have an ATM, but I don't recommend relying on them. Once they're out of cash, they are not replenished until the next cruise begins. You'll only be able to get cash if satellite connections are working properly. Plus, the fee to use them is about $6. I recommend purchasing traveler checks, which can be cashed on board for no additional charge.

Thanks Spongerob for your swift reply! I've just read in the cruise answer booklet that 'there are no ATM machines on any of the ships', which has me slightly confused me now, I would love someone to actually confirm that there are or are not ATM's on board the Princess ships, especially on the Sea Princess!

Thanks

Steve

You used to be able to cash a personal check at the Purser's Desk. Does anybody know if you still can? I haven't seen anyone do so in the last few years. But I have seen people pay their shipboard account with a check.

The Princess website says you can cash travelers checks at Passenger Service/Purser's Desk, but there's no mention regarding personal checks. Of course, being able to cash any kind of check is dependent on the purser's desk not running out of money. That can happen, probably not as much since they have ATM's and Foreign Money exchange machines on board. We used see it happen a lot in the old days when everyone wanted the currency for the local port. Now so many places take dollars that many pax do not get the local currency.

I've noticed ATM machines in the Casinos in a lot of Princess ships--have never used one--so--really don't look for them

I also would suggest travelers checks--maybe get a credit card--most of us use a credit card to settle our ship statement

The ships also have a money exchange machine on many cruises where this is necessary

Left the Sea Princess a few weeks ago--can't remember if I saw an ATM

Have fun cruising

There is a live from Sea Princess thread, where people who are currently on board will respond to questions about the ship. You might try asking there. Here's the link to Live from Sea Princess. Through another "live from" thread I've confirmed that there are two on Golden Princess.

Thanks again! Steve

There were ATMs in the casinos of the Diamond and the Sapphire, but, as stated above, they were empty by the time I ran out of cash. The Purser's Desk would not cash a check, but the casino gives cash advances against your room charge for I think a 3% fee (probably requires that you have a credit card on your room account though). This was less expensive for me though that the $5 the ATM would have cost, so I was glad I had to find another way.

Best,

Mia

As has been said, I would not depend on the ATM working and having cash. It depends on a satellite connection which isn't always available. Also, I've seen ships run out of U.S. cash completely and they didn't have more until the end of the cruise.

Save yourself some stress and bring traveler's checks. Another suggestion is to send yourself cash "gifts" towards your onboard account pre-cruise so that you can reduce the amount you owe at the end of the cruise. Don't forget to include the $10/day/pp recommended tip in your cash needs estimate.

  • 1 month later...

What do you mean by "cash gifts" to yourself to your onboard account? This is our first cruise and in our past travels we have relied mostly on credit cards to pay for most things for convenience, so I'm trying to figure out how much cash and traveler's checks to bring.
