Millenium NO/Westerdam YES

We just booked an inside guarantee (literally the only reservation available) for a last minute cruise on Westerdam December 10, after our Millenium cruise for that week was cancelled due to propulsion problems. We sailed on Statendam a number of years ago and were impressed with HAL's product so we're looking forward trying HAL again. We always book an outside or a balcony and aren't looking forward to an inside cabin but beggars can't be choosers. Our TA said the HAL agent told him it was possible we'd be upgraded. For those who've had experience with HAL upgrades, what's the chance we'd be upgraded from an inside to an outside? Where on HAL's website can I check to see if and when we've been given a cabin assignment?

Also, we're loyal X cruisers (25 X cruises) and it's been quite some time since we sailed HAL - for those who've cruised both Celebrity and HAL, how would you compare the two?

Thanks.

On the HAL website, look for "booked guests", sign in with your name and booking number. You can go to the immigration form, which will show your cabin number if it has been assigned. You want to fill out the immigration form in advance anyway, so you might as well do that while you are there. You can go back and review the form as often as you wish to see if a cabin number has been assigned.

I've only sailed once on Celebrity, several on HAL, but my view and that of most people that have compared, is that the two are pretty close in terms of food and service, HAL has an edge in terms of cabin size and layout. And no one has more comfortable beds than HAL.

Assignments of guarantees usually take place 10 to 7 days before sailing, so you've still got a shot ... but realize that there's probably a long line ahead of you, booking this late. And yes, upgrades from inside to outside do happen. :)
