NotMyRealName Posted December 3, 2006 #76 Share Posted December 3, 2006 I love to cruise but can't say I'd enjoy those conditions... Sounds like you're doing a great job breaking in the Pearl ;) Now... Was anyone bowling last night :D
Planer's Edge Posted December 3, 2006 #77 Share Posted December 3, 2006 Those storm window covers for the AC's and AA's exist on the Jewel also. So, it was not a design change because of the "wave". PE

EileenN Posted December 3, 2006 #79 Share Posted December 3, 2006 Jim, Thanks for relaying the apology to Pamela. I can imagine her reaction. Remember the safest place during those slaming waves is the casino. You can hang on to a slot machine, like I did. They never move much and I hit a jackpot at about 1 am during the storm. Keep safe and enjoy the ride. Eileen

watchdiva Posted December 3, 2006 #84 Share Posted December 3, 2006 Shoreguy - thanks for posting the pics! Looks awesome. Would love to hear more about your AB (we have one booked for 4/13/07). How are the beds? Is there a TV in the master bedroom? I can't remember if they had them on the Dawn in that bedroom or not? Any idea why they did away with the jacuzzi bathtub in the AB - I LOVED IT!:) I bet you're having a blast! Wish we were there also.......... star7228 Posted December 3, 2006 #86 Share Posted December 3, 2006 (Star Bar is closed until 6 pm since it is now the Concierge lounge during the day and Cagney’s serves breakfast and lunch for penthouse passengers) Just to clarify then, so penthouse passengers can go to Cagney's for breakfast/lunch - is that the same menu that is in the main dining rooms? That's a nice option. Last time we were in a penthouse was on the Star in 2003, and it seems they're adding some perks for our next trip on the Pearl in June! Do you just show your key card then, which shows your stateroom? I'm guessing it's the same for getting into the Star Bar before 6pm? Thanks Shoreguy for the posts! I am so excited every day to check out the updates!

margaret91326 Posted December 3, 2006 #90 Share Posted December 3, 2006 2 questions shoreguy: Is the pool in the spa theralossopy or just a big hot tub? What is the size of the souvenier ship model in the gift shop? I collect them and I like the 10" better than the 6". Thanks for your posts. It's been exciting to hear your tales. Andreas Depping Posted December 3, 2006 #91 Share Posted December 3, 2006 Shoreguy, I wish you a nice trip on the Pearl. I spent only 24 hours on this very beautiful ship and me and my wife enjoyed it very much. Please sent my best wishes to the crew, particularly those on my photos ( http://www.cruiseship-gallery.de ). Andreas

Or is it just a place to hang out? Is there an extra charge to eat at Cagney's for breakfast & lunch?
shoreguy Posted December 3, 2006 Author #93 Share Posted December 3, 2006 Lunch was outstanding – lump crabmeat cake sandwich on rosemary bread. Most activities canceled today with the seas. Cha Cha lessons gone. They did not need them everyone is dancing down the hallways naturally. Climbing wall closed. For that matter all the upper decks and the promenade are closed. I missed the Martini clinic today it was at 12 noon ! Followed at 1 pm with the wine tasting , a short break and Margareta clinic at 3 pm. Perfect for a real sea day..lol. Went to Bliss found Adriana from my first Dawn cruise working there. Just a great person. She could not remember my name but did remember my drink..lol. Bowling alleys locked down. Club empty. FYI for those that care it is smoke free and the home of karaoke and disco. Bowling for those that want to know is $5 per game. Setting the first ever CC bowling tournament is still on my back. L Tried to test out the virtual reality machines in Bliss - $3.00. The dollar bill slot does not work. Only accepts quarters. I was told I need to go to the casino to get quarters. Right that will work. I suggested to the young man running the bar ( wish I got his name and I will) that that will never work. How do they expect anyone to use the machines? “That’s the way it works” I asked who can fix that and he said not him but if he was Hotel Director he would fix lots of things. I suggested if he wants to be Hotel Director he should start buy figuring out how to fix things he is responsible for. Could have been the two Grey Goose Martinis but it just rubbed me the wrong way. Somehow his chances to be the HD are not good.. Left Bliss and went up to La Cucina made a reservation for 8:30 no problem and no concierge needed. Perhaps the current sea conditions had something to do with it. Things are calming down a bit – speed of the ship up to 14.7 knots only 3800 NM to go. Seas at 18 to 27 feet. SANDPEBBLES Posted December 3, 2006 #94 Share Posted December 3, 2006 Shoreguy, thank you so much for your detailed observations and pictures. We will be sailing on the Pearl, February 2, 2007 (Groundhog Day). Snorklin'Barb is the envy of our Groundhog Girlfriend Group as she sails the Pearl for the first time. Please give her our love and best wishes for a fun and safe cruise. (All of us met on the Jewel "Good Morning America" cruise last February.) At least two in our group are EXTREMELY relieved you found the fancy coffee machine. Don't even mention to them life without good morning coffee! Several of us are hoping for an "inside the spa" report at some point. I'm sure Barb has this on her list of things to investigate. If she shares with you, please do tell us! :) Again, thank you for this blog. It's fascinating. Wishing you a wonderful cruise! :)
EileenN Posted December 3, 2006 #95 Share Posted December 3, 2006 Jim, I see you are not going to let anyone badmouth Klaus..Good for you. Being the Hotel Manager on the Pearl is a top class job. Klaus has earned that honor. I imagine that you are going to remember this cruise for a long time. It seems that you must have a strong stomach. Hope it continues. Stay healthy. First, thanks again for taking the time to share so the rest of us can cyber cruise along with you and the rest of the CC'ers. Second, your answer to the young man running the bar was perfect as was your conclusion. But, being the optimist, and having been given more second chances than I care to remember, maybe your response gave him a knudge to take care of things...whether or not they're his responsibility. Geesh...first big cruise out...bad weather...guest who is trying to keep on keepin' on...you know, I don't drink alcohol but I'm pretty sure I would have responded in a similar manner. Ciao and continued bon voyage! W A W W

kaiemiascott2 Posted December 4, 2006 #98 Share Posted December 4, 2006 Shoreguy, I am enjoying reading your daily blogs. Thank you for taking time to send us updates. I am part of the "Groundhog Girlfriends Group". Please send my hellos to Snorklin!Barb and tell her I am thinking about her. I hope she is surviving the rough seas.. I think I saw her in your picture with Klaus and the other officers. I have sailed twice on the Jewel and loved her so I am anxious to board The Pearl. Again, thank you and keep the messages coming!
