sportsnut Posted December 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2006 We are sailing on the POH in a couple of weeks and had a few questions. 1. Are the specialty resturants available on the first night? 2. On the first day can you check in for your cruise and then leave the boat and return before sailing? 3. Is there a place to park the rental car in the port at maui if we have it for a two day rental? 4. What night do they serve lobster and prime rib? 5. What time does the ship sail past the lava flow and which is the best side to view? Any helpful information would be great. Thanks.

It's a good night for a specialty, because few sign up for it and the staff are eager to serve and please their "new" passengers. 2. Yes. The Aloha shops are right there at the pier. 3. Yes. Parking for rental cars is right by the ship and the overnight parking is free. 4. Typically Tuesday. It's a busy night and there are no reservations for the Grand Pacific (unless you're a party of six or more) so plan to get in when they open at 5:30. You can always have a cocktail at your table and strectch out the dining time. 5. The ship gets to the flow about 9:00 p.m. The glow can be seen for miles before it actually arrives. We believe that a seat at the very bow on the upper deck is the best viewing place. When the ship lights are turned out to see the lava flow the stars are as spectacular as the flow itself! As the ship turns from right to left the bow lookers continue to see the whole show. Have fun! Great cruise!
tkcruiser Posted December 1, 2006 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2006 We are on the 12/18 PoH cruise. This is the first I've heard about the bow view of the lava flow. We'll plan on being there with cocktail in hand! PS: 16" of snow here last night. Can't wait for Hawaii!! :D :D
dcp81 Posted December 2, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2006 I'm with you TKCRUISER. I live in Appleton City, MO (west of Clinton). We only got 13" last night. Unfortunately, we don't sail on POH until Jan. 22. We still have 7 more weeks of winter to put up with. Don
