bdlee73 Posted December 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2006 Many moons ago I cruised on the Viking Serenade with a stop in Santa Catalina. Due to California gambling laws, the casino was closed when we sailed from San Pedro to Catalina. Is this still the case on the Monarch or have the laws changed? Thanks! FitzLA Posted December 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2006 I believe this is still true, as you have to be in international waters before the casino is opened. Unless they sail out into international waters before turning around to head back to Catalina. I never did understand this stop. Living in Los Angeles, I have taken many a weekend trip to Catalina. It takes less than an hour to get there. Where does the ship go all night? Hmmm.;)

hunnypot1 Posted December 19, 2006 #5 Share Posted December 19, 2006 Hey, FitzLA, are we on the same cruise? Mine leaves 1/22/07...
Happy ks Posted December 19, 2006 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2006 When Monarch cruises over to Catalina now, it goes from San Diego, not LA. As I recall, the casino was open every night on the 4 nighter. The 3 nighter doesn't go to Catalina (darn) it just kind of floats, or goes around in circles after leaving Ensenada. OT (a little) we've always kind of thought we could walk home faster than the ship returns to LA on the weekend cruise :D .
