Sydney had a free van, driven by an idle farmer and paid for by the downtown Businesses.Even physically challenged pax were seen around main street.

Quebec city: Go there! You must. the jewel of the cruise.
More later about Gustav, saguney river, Portland,Internet access, and Being the "helper" to the guest relations desk.

We were in Sydney on 9/11 on the NCL Sea. The firemen and city officials had a wonderful memorial ceremony on dock in the morning and again in the afternoon. People stopped us on the street and welcomed us! It was heartwarming, much better than a great many ports we have been in. We had been in NS some years ago, camping, and were welcomed then. Needless to say, we have a soft spot in our hearts for the good folks in Nova Scotia.

Halifax: A gritty industrial city with a fascinating history - read "Halifax, Warden of the North" - before you go. Bus tour took in the cemetary where the Titanic victims are buried, as well as the Citadel. The Citadel reminded me somehow of the old Naval Dockyard in Bermuda - then I found out that Halifax and Bermuda were the keys of the British Navy in the Western Atlantic - no wonder they seemed similar!

Sydney: We took the bus tour to the Fortress of Louisbourg - well worth the trip to history buffs. We want to go back and spend a few days there! Sydney endeared herself to us - as Galaxy left the port, a lot of local cars the parking lot gave a lively "beeping salute!" Whether they were glad to see us leave or wanted to wish us "Godspeed" I leave to you to decide.

Canadians in general, and Maritimers in particular, are a friendly bunch. We're proud of our country, and welcome visitors. 9/11 was a wake up call for both our countries. The U.S. and Canada have been friendly neighbours (for the most part) since the beginning. The beeping cars were simply bidding you a fond farewell, and inviting you back.
