"Put others down"??????

Are you crazy, EKERR19?????

I am probably the most "live and let live" kind of person that you'll ever meet, honey.

"RELAX"???? OK! I can do that. :)

I'm not quite certain "where" your post to me came from....

Dunno if it was because you might be a "reformed" smoker, or a suffering "fattie" as Toad alluded to. Either way, I need no "challenge" from you, nor the silly "LOL's".

All I can say is, "OK....grind on".

Happy now?

I don't know, I personally would like to see keel hauling brought back - much more interesting to watch

Might have to learn more about that, baby....

Do they do the above mentioned "keel hauling" up on my topless deck?

If not, I'm not interested. ;)

No, then it would be called "topless deck hauling" - keel hauling takes places predominantly under the keel - gotta hold your breath for a while but you do get a whole different perspective of the ship!

Go easy on Ekerr19 (Laura) please, Nanette - She is good people just like you are! She's just trying to improve harmony here and that's always a good thing! I know you agree;)

NNN - Please feel free to use the email link and contact me. I am an Aries and get my dander up easily, sorry. I REALLY have no issue with you - I think John will attest (if he is still speaking with me), but I have had the past two weeks from hell, my Mom is in the hospital and we are basically helpless to help her... but I am an easy going person, really.

Why is it that everytime someone asks an innocent question about smoking it leads to others pontificating on the habit. Let the guy or girl know they can smoke and leave it at that. They will smoke with or without your sermon. For the moment at least HAL welcomes all, and personally I don't want to live in a place where others, including insurance companies, dictate life style. What if HAL said that everyone carrying more than twenty pounds of excess weight could not cruise, because of the risk of heart disease, diabetes etc...... How many of us would not be crusing..?

Toad, well stated!

There are those who won't be thrilled with me for bringing this forward, but I do have an observation about this subject.

My DH smokes a pipe. He's trying desperately to stop but anyone who has ever had an addiction of any kind knows how difficult that is. There are few enough places he can enjoy his pipe and I think he should be able to enjoy it on his own balcony.

No one hates it more than I do, but he's not going to get over his habit by not being allowed to smoke on our balcony. He'll just go up on deck and smoke there and bother even more people.

In some cases the more someone is told they can't do something, he more likely they are to just do it. That's a reality. Tell you one thing ... if DH tells me I don't really "need" dessert, I'm going to have it:D .

I’m a regular cigar smoker and have several each day while cruising. Every ship I’ve been on has had a cigar lounge of some sort. It has always been perfectly acceptable to smoke in the lounge, but I have occasionally encountered passers-by who complain. I have experienced only a few other indoor places where cigar smoking is allowed. On most ships cigar smoking is allowed outdoors but often times only on the port (left) side of the ship. One of my favorite places to smoke cigars on a ship is on the port side of an outdoor swimming pool.

As for smoking on the balcony…I love to have a cigar on my balcony, especially as the ship is leaving port, but I sometimes hear complaints from people on other balconies downwind (aft). They will either holler out insults or make loud exaggerated coughing sounds. No one ever just says “can you put that thing out”. A travel agent once mentioned that she always chooses a cabin as far forward as she can so she doesn’t have to smell people smoking when she leaves her balcony door open. I suppose the opposite could also apply. Cigar smokers could choose an aft cabin if they want to avoid offending others (or hearing complaints).

One thing that always annoys me…50 people can all smoke cigarettes at the same time in the ships casino…but I can’t light one lousy cigar.

on our october westerdam cruise it seemed as though everytime we went out on the balcony (even as early as 6:30 a.m.) there was someone nearby out on his/her balcony smoking a cigar. It was disgusting. I'm no great fan of cigarette smoke either but at least it doesn't pollute like a cigar.

I'd love to find a manufacturer of "farts in a can" so that I can stand out on my balcony in the future and spray it in the offending direction in order to give the cigar smokers something to appreciate.. YUCK!!!

LOL!!! I must say that REALLY did make me laugh out loud.

On the Constellation this past January, I did not have any complaints smoking a Cigar or two. I had a few on my balcony, as well as designated areas on ship. I found quite a few other cigar smokers who enjoyed a cigar or two onboard. I did my best to stay clear of non smokers in general. But my favorite moment was having a Cigar on my balcony with a drink. =)

Have a nice day.
