We were in an AD on the Emerald deck on the Caribbean Princess. We had no problems with the lifeboats--they are forward of the AD minisuites. The balcony on the Emerald deck is completely covered, too. We have not stayed on the Dolphin deck, but we do know that those balconies can be partially covered or totally open to the passengers above you.

The lifeboats are actually underneath the balconies located on the Dolphin deck. Therefore, if you look down, you will see water or the dock, depending as to the location of the ship.
