pondst302 Posted February 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2007 Does anyone know if it is possible to take a train, taxi or shuttle from the main train station in Naples to the excavations in Pompeii? We had thought of a private guide/driver and spending the day doing Amalfi, Positano and Pompeii but oh my gosh it seems expensive! Any and all ideas are sooooo welcome:) thanks, Athena
Paul S Posted February 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2007 Pompeii is on the outskirts of Naples, so a taxi would be feasible. However, you can take the Circumvesuviana train from Naples main station to Pompeii Scavi station, which is a few moments walk from the entrance to Pompeii. The cost is negligible, no more than a couple of euros each (I did the trip last September but can't remember the exact price), and is probably about a twenty minute journey. You should allow a minimum of two - three hours at Pompeii You can go by fast boat/hydrofoil from Naples to Positano and then on to Amalfi, returning the same way to Naples. During the main season there is also a boat service from Naples via Pompeii, so you may be able to go from there on to Positano without going back to Naples port. I'm sure somebody else will be able to give more details, but I know they are available on the web, so you could try googling. Paul S
